Things I love about the Summer

After the bleakest, long, cold winter, Summer seems to be FINALLY on it’s way!  I’ve decided to write a list of some of my favourite things about the warmer months, including some of my fav summer fashion items so we can all get excited for what’s to come!

Fresh air & nature | Warmer weather & longer days have me longing to get out of the house more and explore (compared to winter where I literally want to stay snuggled on the sofa with a cup of tea all day long).  This summer I really want to make the most of being outside; breath in the fresh summer air, go for long walks, explore and ground myself more with nature.  I think it’ll make a massive difference to my mental wellbeing as well as keeping me exercised!

Cute Sandals |  The past week has seen me ditching my chunky boots, freshly painting my toes & investing in some gorgeous new cute summer shoes, and obviously there’s no better shoe choice in the summer months than sandals.  Oh how I wish I could wear them all year round.

I’ve been lusting over pages upon pages of sandals on the House of Fraser website recently and I couldn’t resist the two pairs featured in this post.  Firstly I can’t get enough of the nude Carvela sandal wedges (here) which I think will be my go-to shoes of summer 2018.  Not only are they gorgeous & adorable, they are incredibly comfortable and very easy to dress up or down.

And secondly (below), a classic black strappy sandal from Steve Madden (here) – they go with every outfit imaginable and their contrasting heel gives a little height whilst remaining comfy.

ALSO – Most of the sandals on House of Fraser are currently in their blackout sale with up to 30% off.  The black sandals are currently have £14 off, whilst the Carvela wedges are almost half price from £69 to £35 – bargain!

Everyone’s cheery | I feel like everyone walks with a spring in their step during the warmer months; mood’s are lifted, people are friendlier and the world feels like a brighter place!

Floral prints & colour | Fashion is a lot more fun in the summer as there’s less worry about – especially dressing weather appropriate (no thick tights, scarves and chunky coats to drag around too)!  I’m really looking forward to embracing some of this season’s trends; lots of floral prints & embroidery, bright colours (the brighter, the better), and mixing textures!  The red maxi dress above is from Warehouse at House of Fraser and I adore the bright colour with the floral print and the espadrille & suede sandals from Carvela add sophistication and texture.

The shorts in my second summer outfit above are from Ted Baker at House of Fraser and it’s real love – they have an almost oriental print on the soft material which adds a real statement and pop of colour!

Socialising | Along with feeling a lot happier in the summer, I also feel more of a social butterfly as there are so many great ways to socialise!  I’m thinking BBQ’s, tipples in beer gardens, picnics, or even just laying on the grass reading a book is a luxury when it’s warm out.  Of course there’s also festivals, beach day outs, outside cinema nights… the list goes on!

Holidays | Need I say more?

So they are some of the things I’m most looking forward to this summer.  I’m not going to lie, I’m currently writing this post at my desk whilst snuggled in my dressing gown as the rain falls outside, so this has certainly lifted my spirits up!

I’ve linked both of the outfits worn below, so be sure to check them out on the House of Fraser website!

Outfit 1: Red Dress, Wedged Sandals

Outfit 2: Bardot Top, Floral Shorts, Black Sandals, Bag

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

Loved this post Katie; the photos of you are gorgeous! The sun is finally shining today in Glasgow so it does feel like summer is on its way. I’d say I’m most looking forward to sunny walks and lots of ice cream! x

Where I live (about 2 hours outside of Cape Town, South Africa) it gets so very hot during summer and because I have a very fair skin tone, going in the sun is always a hassle and danger for me.But I have to say, reading your post reminds me of some of the really lovely parts of summer. Our little house sits in the mountains, right next to a dam, so we have lovely braais (South African bbq) and swim the days away.

You should definitely put South Africa on your list of places to visit, I think you would adore it.

Please check out the attached website, it is the farm I work on and live near and is a real gem.

That floral shorts is so cute! I love both outfits! I’m kind of prefer winter because I hate the bugs 🙁 but summer always makes me excited, the beach, the cute dress, fruits… This year I’m obsessed with floral prints and colorful clothing, too.
