I wanted to share some of the contenders for my wedding day perfume today. Choosing my wedding fragrance has been such an exciting prospect for me as somehow who adores fragrance and how they are so closely linked with nostalgia and memories. I wanted a special and unique fragrance to really capture the spirit of me and our day and so here are some of my options!
Juliette Has A Gun – I discovered JHAG last year and they’ve quickly become one of my fav brands. Their fragrances are unique, fun and so different and top of that, they seem to always make me smile! I’m obsessed with ‘Sunny Side Up’, a woody floral fragrance which to me smells like a sunny, beach holiday in a bottle. It has notes of vanilla, coconut, sandalwood, ISO E Super and ambrette and I’ve just never experienced a fragrance like it! Another contender from JHAG is ‘Not a Perfume’, a fragrance with only ONE note/molecule, called Cetalox. It’s a warm, sexy, understated fragrance which is woody and slightly musky. This is also a perfect perfume for layering, so spritz as a base and experiment with layering up other fragrances for a completely personal scent.
Maison Margeila: The Replica range of fragrances by Maison Margeila are my newest fragrance obsession, so much so, that I have a long list of them on my ‘to buy’ list and also, I get so excited to apply perfume in the morning with my latest additions. I have a full blog review coming soon with individual reviews of each perfume I adore from this brand, but their perfume ‘Whispers in the Library’ is one of my favourites. It’s an amber woody fragrance with notes of vanilla, wood, pepper and cedar that are expertly blended to create a boozy, gourmand vanilla which develops into a dusty wood which perfectly captures a dusty library vibe. It’s a comforting vanilla perfume that I adore. You can read my full reviews of their scents on this post!
Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka: There have been multiple times where I’ve felt compelled to ask a woman what fragrance she’s wearing and on a few of those occasions, the answer has been Jo Malone’s Myrrh & Tonka. I’m always drawn to vanilla, amber scents and this is like a warm, comforting, strong hug in a bottle. The top note is lavender, followed by a middle note of myrrh and base notes of vanilla, tonic bean and almond. It’s not your typical floral wedding scent, which I think it one of the reasons I’m so drawn to it for my big day. It’s powerful but soft and SO warm and gorgeous on the skin (as opposed to paper tester strips). I really recommend spraying this on your arm and letting it develop over the day because it transforms into a wonderful scent. I also find this fragrance lasts really well on me, way into the evening, which is a bonus!
Jo Malone Scarlet Poppy Intense: I fell in love with this fragrance as soon as I smelt it, and honestly I’ve never owned a fragrance like it. I’m a big fan of vanilla and also can’t get enough of powdery fragrances and this is both of those, with an added sweet floral. This is a relatively new fragrance to Jo Malone, launching in 2020 and it has notes of Ambrette (a woody musk), fig, poppy, tonka bean and heliotrope (a powdery floral with almond like notes). Because of it’s powdery notes it reminds me a little of lipsticks but with a floral twist, it’s romantic and lasts really well on my skin and layered over Myrrh and Tonka Bean, it’s even more incredible!
Diptyque Eau Duelle – Eau Duelle has been my signature scent for 10 years now (I can’t believe it’s been that long) but recently I haven’t been wearing it as often. I think I’m SO used to the scent that often I can hardly smell it on me anymore. But still, when I think of how I want to feel and smell on my wedding day, it would be this soft, elegant, woody vanilla of Eau Duelle. Like being wrapped in a duvet on an autumn evening. It has notes of bourbon vanilla, pepper, musk, ambergris (now synthetically made, described as an earthy sandal-woof like, musky, tobacco scent) and resin.
Molton Brown Oudh Accord & Gold – Another one of my all time favourite fragrances, and you guessed it, it’s an amber woody unisex scent. It’s top notes are black pepper, cardamon, middle notes of vanilla black tea and rose and finishing on base notes of tobacco, oud and honey. It’s spicy, adventurous, confidence and bold – definitely more of a winter fragrance but one I can’t get enough of and one I get a lot of compliments on!
If you two are looking for your wedding perfume and you love warm, sweet, woody scents, I’d really encourage you to give these a test in store!!
And if you’re already married, leave me a comment letting me know what your wedding day perfume was, I’d love to know!
Lots of love, Katie x
