REVIEW: Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation | Before & After

This is the first in my new series of foundation reviews!  This was a regular feature on my blog back in the day (you can have a browse at previous ones here) and I’m so happy to bring it back because I’m sure there are a lot of girls who, like me, are on the hunt for their holy grail foundation!  Not only that, but I’m also super pale and so finding products pale enough can be tricky, so hopefully this will help some of you pale babes out there too.

I’m starting the series off with the newest foundation in my collection – Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation!  I tried this many years ago but had a shade which was far too dark for me (Ecru) but they’ve since released a huge selection of new colours and I was so happy to find one suitable for my skin tone!

BEFORE AND AFTERS (Also wanted to photograph these in sunlight too, below)!

Like my old reviews, I’m going to be reviewing foundations based on the following 6 categories!

COLOUR – The colour range for Doublewear has been extended greatly (now 54 shades) since the last time I tried it and I couldn’t be happier about this.  I went into store to get colour matched and discovered that I’m 1N0 Porcelain and this isn’t even the palest shade (which I normally am), which goes to show how good the colour range is.

COVERAGE – This has a medium but build-able coverage which airbrushes the skin and evens out any redness or pigmentation (as you can see in the before & after pictures above).  I have a lot of redness around my nose and found that by just buffing a bit of extra product into these areas with a concealer brush did the job perfectly without the need for extra concealer.

FORMULA/FINISH – I originally thought this foundation would feel really cakey & thick on the skin because of its coverage but I’ve been really pleasantly surprised.  Despite being a thick liquid formula, it has a gorgeous dewy finish on the skin.  It’s been VERY hot in London over the past month but this is still the product I’m reaching for, which I think says a lot!

I also think this has great staying power, again it’s outlasted sweat and heat on the London underground and my base is still going strong well into the evening.  What I would say is, despite feeling light on the skin, it is quite noticeable that you are wearing product, but I think that’s expected!

PRICE – This retails at £33.50 but you can find it at Debenhams and John Lewis currently for £28.47.  It’s pricey, but you don’t need much to get a nice base so I think it’d last you a while!

SPF – Contains SPF 10 which is ok, but I’d still recommend wearing your daily high SPF underneath.

WHAT I THINK:

This has become my most reached for foundation over the past few weeks.  Not only do I love the way it looks on my skin, but I’ve also had lots of compliments on how good my skin is looking whilst wearing it.  I’d be really interested to see how it wears throughout the colder winter months with drier skin, so maybe I’ll update this post at the end of the year.

Have you tried Double Wear? Would you like more foundation reviews?

I used Doublewear whilst on Roaccutane and having really dry skin and it was the best foundation I tried, so it should definitely see you through the winter months!
    Your skin looks amazing!

When I first used the foundation a few years ago, I didn’t get it. Then after learning more about how to apply makeup, I love this long lasting foundation. I also love that Estee Lauder released more shades. It’s such a great versatile foundation. Great review!

This is my holy grail foundation! I usually pick up the lightest shade and was surprised when I was color-matched to the shade 2N1, which is absolutely perfect me. This is the only foundation that I feel the need to repurchase when I run out. I’ve been using it for the last 4 years, and a bottle will definitely last long time since a little really does go a long way!

I’m a huge fan of the Estée Lauder Double Wear range. I have the one with the cushion stick applicator and, you’re right; a little bit definitely goes a long way. Looking at these before and after pictures you took, it’s amazing to see how natural it is. I also didn’t know it had SPF in, which is always great to know!

I was recently reading your old foundation reviews like these and always loved how you gave a true representation. I’m so pleased to see a new shade as I had Ecru too and recently kept thinking it was giving me a line around my jawline.

I am definitely going to get re-matched now I know they have more shades as I LOVE this foundation when I want to look perfectly flawless!

    Thanks Katie! xx

Maybe not worth its own segment, but would you maybe add what you think it applies best with? I’ve gone from brush to sponge and wouldn’t really go back, but understand that different things would work differently with different tools. #different

I would also be interested in that. And just generally seeing how you apply it…

This sounds great and looks like a great finish on your skin. I’m a little surprised by how light and dewy it looks. I haven’t tried Double Wear as I have pretty dry skin and worry it would stick to dry patches and look cakey with it being a thicker formula but it does sound worth a try 🙂 xx

The results looks great. I have been using urban decay and really pleased with the results. Might need to try the estee lauder double wear.

I’ve used Double wear for ten years and it’s the best make up ever. It is the kind of make up that give maximum cover and stays in place all day and night.
