LIFE: THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY

After going through what is perhaps the hardest and saddest times in my life recently (see this post here) I decided to dedicate a whole post to the things that make me happy.  If any of you are going something similar to me, take comfort in the little things that you look forward to and which make every day slightly easier.

Bubble baths

Before 2016 I had never had a bubble bath or used a bath bomb (being completely honest I was absolutely paranoid about yeast infections, soz TMI).

However now, my bubble bath is now my sanctuary.  I have developed a big obsession with Lush and their bath bombs and taking that time to run a bath, watch a bath bomb explode and relax in the water is my time alone, my place to escape and it’s the one place I feel that I let all of my worries go.  (To top it all off, I needn’t have worried about thrush – bonus).

Podcasts and Books

I became really obsessed with podcasts last year (I have a blog post with my favourites coming up soon) so they have really become my ultimate escape.

Whether I’m in the bath, doing housework, editing photographs or laying in bed, I guarantee there will always be a podcast on in the background.  They make me forget about my worries for a short while, whilst also teaching me lots of new things (albeit mainly true crime facts!).  Likewise, books have always been a big part of my life, reading fills me with so much contentment and joy.

Flowers

It’s true what they say, flowers are the way to a girls heart.  I’ve started treating myself to a bunch of flowers each week and they make such a difference to my mood and also brighten my home.

Friends

I literally don’t know what I would have done recently if it wasn’t for the absolutely incredible friends and family I have around me.  Their advice, support and love has been paramount in my happiness and healing process and I would never take them for granted.  There are days when I feel really down but as soon as I seem them my mood instantly lifts and I feel positive and cheery for days.

The thought of the future

This might be a silly one, but sometimes thinking of the future has really helped to perk me up when I’m feeling miserable and emotional.

I try and think of all the happiness I have to come; the new experiences I will have,  the new people I will meet and the thought of finally meeting the one makes me realise that I made the right decision.

The thought of meeting someone who makes me feel special, adored, loved, beautiful, confident and cared for is keeping me going and although I’m totally not ready for this just yet (I want to have some fun and learn more about myself first), then it’s definitely helped in my lowest moments.

They are some of the things that make me truly happy.  This was therapeutic to write (and now I’m SO tempted to run myself a bath with a glass of sherry and a podcast!) and so I really recommend doing the same if you ever feel down.

Thank you for your support and comments on my news recently, I can’t thank you guys enough for sharing your similar experiences and for sending sweet messages.

Lots of love, Katie x

It absolutely makes my heart sing to see that your photoshoot produced pictures of you smiling and being silly! (The last picture in this post is a particular favorite of mine) You are such an inspiration and I love your spark. I also adore the idea of treating yourself to flowers every week – I may have to start doing that this year! 🙂 <3

Thank you for writing this post, it is exactly what I needed to hear. I left my fiancé on the 9th December, and in the back of my mind I know it was the right thing to do, but, like you say, it still hurts like hell.
