I’m feeling quite mellow this evening. Mellow in the sense of calm but contemplating life and thinking about how I can improve my experiences, and myself as a person. I think this is a normal feeling to have around this time of year; to re-evaluate and think about how you want to change, so I thought I’d write some feelings down.
1) I think it’s really easy to be swept up in the moment of something and it to take over, especially these days with social media everywhere, constantly checking what other people are getting up to and comparing your life, and over-thinking & worrying about everything, but I’ve been trying more and more recently to take a step back and take a look at the bigger picture.
Take time to appreciate the small things; put my phone down and pay attention to what’s really going on around me instead of what someone else ate for breakfast on Instagram. I think doing these small things, like appreciating the sunset/sunrise (which I’ve been doing lots lately) has really made me realise how I am one tiny little speck on this planet; it’s my life and I want to be happy, and for it to be the most fulfilling I can make it.
2) I really want to start recording more memories and writing more things down. I forget so many important, memorable details which saddens me as I want to remember them all (especially when it comes to relationships and falling in love).
3) Be confident of yourself and don’t compare yourself to others. It’s easy to look at an ex of your partner and think ‘oh she has bigger boobs than me’ but you need to have faith in yourself. I struggle with this one particularly and it does get you down and ruin relationships but it’s really important not to let the past effect life now. The past happened and is over and (thank to the lord) it doesn’t make it’s way back into your life. This ties in with trying not to worry about things that haven’t or won’t have happened yet – there’s no point in worrying about something that might not even happen, it’ll just play on your mind, make you sad and not a nice person to be around. Be confident in yourself; think about all your good points, what you have to offer and love yourself.
Now obviously saying these things are so much easier than actually doing them. If my mum was to take over my blog now, she would say about how much I’ve recently not listened to my own advice – the amount of time I’ve spent being so upset and down because of the past is just completely ruining now and the future. But, I know these are my faults and I’m working on them!
I hope this post makes sense. It’s really quite a ramble but if it makes one person feel just a bit more positive I’ll be happy.

Love your thoughts on this! That picture is very cute btw!
My Wedding in Pictures
Thank you for this post. Definitely easier said then done just speaking to my mum about this today, as much as it is great to delve into others lives on social media, it is also the quickest way to see what you are not getting getting the chance to do.
I too am making conscious effort to not check my social feed as much, we have to remember that most of what we see is just the best bits of an otherwise unglamorous day, or even hyped for appearances
It is about trying to appreciate what we do have, trust me there are people who are always worse off.
Sorry to just butt in but your comment is so right! Over the past few days I've had to take a step away from social media and I kept thinking I was just hiding, but your comment has made me realise I'm actually just helping myself!
Oh gawd, I was the worst for fretting about the past – especially my boyfriends exes. Its so important to focus on the now, the smaller and imperfect things. One of my "must do!" things is to take more photographs. Film photographs that you can physically hold and stick in a frame/collage/album. Little things, man. Little things.
So true, so true…
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Love your blog!
Katie this post was really thought provoking and it's made me want to do these things too – you speak a lot of sense and I'm going to take your advice 🙂 love your blog and YouTube by the way xx
I definitely need to work on these, especially number 3. I really loved this post, thanks for writing it. It came just at the right time for me!

A brilliant post I've been recently stuck in a rut for similar thoughts! I've started to feel like I look older and although told otherwise why should it matter if I look older! Of course there's always going to be younger people that look great it doesn't mean that I don't. Worrying about it will only make me more upset and won't help it's about acceptance and loving who you are and what you are and to know that your loved by many.
Hi Katie, what an eloquently written post, just so thought-provoking…. it is so refreshing to see that you are taking a step back to reflect, ponder and enjoy what you have! Thank you for sharing! xoxo
This post really hit home because I've been definitely stuck in rut for a long time now and it's hard to shake it. I really appreciated your words.

I think it's great that you've written this all down. Three is such great advice, comparing yourself to others leads nowhere but to disappointment and frustration. It's hard not to though.
I like reading posts like this, it makes me think Oh its not just me that feels like this! I also need to learn to take my own advice. great post x
This was just what I needed Katie, thank you. I was feeling really down in the dumps recently, just through scrolling through instagram or facebook I had this overwhelming feeling that everyone else was having fun and enjoying life except me! Then I realized I'm not the only person who feels like this and what you see is just a snippet of someone elses life. Its the little things that make me happy 🙂
This is a great post, Katie. I always try to keep a diary and write down how I feel- it makes for really interesting reading months later and is incredibly therapeutic xx

Wow, this post is so relevant to my life right now! Especially the point about over thinking things and spending far too much time reading into other people's lives. You've definitely made me feel a little more positive 🙂 Thankyou xx
Such a worthwhile post, Katie. I agree that being connected to smartphones and social media 24/7 can really warp how you seem your life compared to others, and it can be too easy to slip into having negative thoughts if your life doesn't seem quite as glossy or perfect as other peoples.
I also think the internet can make leaving the past in the past harder – being able to find profiles and photographs of people in seconds can be a dangerous thing!

i have been fretting loads recently and how my life is but i just need to realise to live my life and be positive in my choices and happiness. great post and i agree with everything you said 🙂

I really liked this post. I feel the same way about recording more memories. I used to take and develop so many photos in my teens, but stopped taking so many in my early twenties. That's why I've started blogging regularly. Funnily enough, I just posted on the topic of self-confidence today, so it was nice to read your take on the topic. http://beautiful-life-as-i-know-it.blogspot.co.uk
I can so relate to the 1st and 3rd point, I've been really bad for this lately. I really need to learn to care less about what others are doing and be selfish and focus on myself and what makes me happy and doing things I enjoy than worry myself over what others are doing. Thanks for sharing this Katie 🙂
