My Skincare Regime (combination/acne prone skin)!

I’ve had a few suggestions to film a video on what skincare products I use on my face at the moment and so here it is!  You can read all about my skincare history here (it includes ghastly pics of my skin at its worst!) so you know what skin type I have, so you can see if your skin is a little similar to mine.  I explain how I use everything in the video below (and I tell you what products are great for blemishes)!

SKINCARE1

– Paula’s Choice Clear Normalizing Cleanser (review)
– Philosophy Purity 3-in-1 Cleanser (EDIT – since filming this video and after using this for two weeks, I have now broken out in spots!  I do love this so I will continue to use it, but only around the eye area to remove eye makeup).
– Johnson’s Baby Wipes
– Bioderma H20 Crealine Solution (review)
– DHC Deep Cleansing Oil
– Paula’s Choice Clear Extra Strength Targeted Blemish Relief Toner (review)
– Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Moisture Gel (review
– Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion SPF15 (review)
– Quinoderm
– Freederm (review)
– Bioeffect EGF Serum (not pictured) (review)

So there we have it – all the products I am currently using as part of my skincare regime.  I hope this has helped a few of you who have similar skin to me.  If you would like a more in depth review of any products mentioned here, then just leave me a comment below and I’ll get on it!  Also – as a beauty blogger, I am always on the look out for new, amazing, skincare products (for example I am dying to try Alpha H Liquid Gold), so if you think there’s a product out there that I’ll love and will suit me, then please let me know!

What skincare products do you use and love?

This is such a great post for all of those who suffer from acne etc, and don't know what products to use to get a good skin care routine. This has definitely helped me! xo

Ooh I have the Alpha H Liquid Gold and I love it! It really helps my blemishes go quicker! I also like the Manuka Dr Apiclear Serum to dab on blemishes to help them go 🙂 x

Great post! I too have blemish-prone skin and I love anything by La Roche Posay and Eve Taylor – well worth a look if you're looking for something gentle yet effective.

I think the worst thing you can do for oily, acne skin is use anything too harsh or abrasive, so I always look for really simple, natural products xx

where do you buy your bioderma from? im desperate for some but have no idea where to get it! xxxx

I've been on Minocycline for acne and it worked well, I changed to Minox and have never looked back! Painful and cystic acne can really damage your confidence so it's great to hear a beauty blogger talking about it!

My skin is soooo similar to yours. I had perfect skin up until 21, then all hell broke loose. I've tried everything. since my acne is hormonell it is very unpredictable. I'm dry at some places, oily in others, sensitive and combination. I feel that i do have a bit of knowledge about skintypes and can easily help my friends. but for me, nothing works. acneproducts dries out the spots but leaves me all flaky. products för dry skin helps with the acne but leaves the skin very oily. products for sensitive skin makes the skin stay not dry/not oily however, it doesn't prevent spots at all!

this all makes me very frustrated at times!

thanks for the video, katie… and sharing your skincare history on your blog. i can imagine how confidence-destroying having such severe acne was, especially during the already awkward teenage years!

i recently tried this sample set from paula's choice (for a measly £3!!). really impressed so far, especially with the cleanser and the BHA gel exfoliator. definitely recommend it, especially to try those two products.

im definitely going to try quinoderm, for a couple of quid it's gotta be worth a try! 🙂

i think a post on how you disguise your problem areas would be good. i struggle to hide my spots and blemishes, and always look powdery trying to disguise my oily bits. your makeup always looks flawless and healthy, so would love to know your secrets!

I have combination/oily skin which is acne prone as well. I find using products that balance the PH of your skin best for controlling my acne, such as Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser of the Avene soapless gel – anything that doesn't contain alcohol! Followed by a toner that also contains natural ingredients and a moisturiser by Dr Manuka which is meant to be good for scarring and blemishes. This works well for me but use a skin-peeling cream prescribed by my doctor as well as antiobiotics to prevent any more cistic spots occuring. Don't think you can avoid the doctor if you suffer from any degree of acne! 🙂
Also use st ives scrub and i love that!

I used to have perfect skin until I was in my thirties, then suddenly I started breaking out really badly. I have been taking Tetralysal, but the one thing that really helped was Liquid Gold. Not only do I break out a LOT less, it's also faded my scars really well.

Bioderma is the best makeup remover! Also, I went to your skin history and I have to applaud you for the pics because I would be very scared to show photos of my own acne prone skin. I've made a new year resolution this year to clear up my skin. I am using a whole line from Yon-Ka and Dr. Murad's 'The Water Secret'. Fingers crossed! Follow my progress at my blog!

I also have combination skin like you and also used to have trouble finding the right balance of moisture on my face. My dermatologist said the Lady Soma Renewal Serum is the sure thing for women with combination skin. Reading the ingredients, it contains multiple anti-oxidant and it is good for combination skin. So I try it for my fine lines on my forehead. It is great. My skin gets smoother and brighter, and the lines are getting less.

Its also a serum, so its great under makeup.

Wow, I too have very sensitive skin. I have found that the Mark off line helps so much. I am not 100% sure that they are made for sensitive skin, but they seem to be the only thing that works for me. Thanks for posting your findings on skin care products.

Great regiment Katie, but try cleansing internally as well to get rid of all your toxins and radicals in your blood and live for clearer and healthier looking skin. I think people focus too much on thinking that external cleansing is good enough, as if there is a magic pharmaceutical product out there that acts like an eraser. They often leave nasty scars and irritation.

Like many people suffering from acne, I spent tons of money buying cheap products and pharmaceuticals with the belief that my acne would magically disappear like on the commercials. But I soon realized that external application and cleansing is not enough to treat acne, but must also involves close care and cleansing of toxins and radicals built up over the years in your body. Acne treatment involves cleansing from the inside out. What helped me realize this was a herbalist at a natural health store when she recommended to me Bell Clear Skin by Bell Lifestyle Products. She told me that the product would cleanse my blood and liver to treat my acne and to take the supplement with lots of water. Over a month, my acne and large pimples started to slowly diminish without leaving those nasty scars. I was totally shocked and surprised of the results. I spent only about 25 dollars compared to the hundreds of dollars i spent throughout high school. I recommended this product to everyone suffering from any skin disorder like psoriasis and eczema. You can buy the product on their website here http://www.belllifestyleproducts.com/60-clear-skin-herbal-skin-care.htm

Katie, your is very useful to the all readers, because of the info on this blog. There are many acne treatment options to choose from right now. These treatments fit one of two categories: "pore cleansers" that suppress acne by preventing the "traffic jam" inside the pores; and products that target the production of either oil or hormones, which are thought to trigger breakouts. Thanks for sharing.

One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems as well as increase the risk of skin cancer. Thank you for such a great write up.

Glad to be here, thanks for sharing such helpful posts.I appreciate all the stuffs here in your weblog.

  46. July 21, 2014 / 4:59 am

To have naturally good skin health, you will have to do the right kind of workout and you will need to be careful with your meals. Getting sufficient sleep and understanding how hormones interact will also be helpful. Take your time to choose the routine that you feel comfortable with and stick to it.
