Rush Hair salon!

I had a haircut!! Arrggghhhhhh! I am so so scared of hairdressers, just because I always seem to blow so much money on a cut and style that I didn’t even ask for, its just never how I want it to end up. However, last week I went with my friend to Rush at Lakeside, to watch her have a hair transformation; she decided to try out red hair (from brunette) and to have a trim.  She looked gorgeous at the end, the hairdresser did the best job and I was jealous, her hair looked healthy, with a gorgeous cut and colour! So I booked my own last week.

I haven’t had a hair cut in a year and my hair (before the cut) it was pretty much all the same length.  I loved it like this as I could plait it and no random hairs would fall out, and because it was all one length, it was pretty obvious that I wasn’t wearing extensions as I think people assume that most girls with platinum blonde hair do wear falsies.  BUT, as I had no layers, my hair was completely flat and lacked volume and style, I did need a change.

So these are my before and after pictures –

The Experience – Everyone in the store was lovely, very friendly.  The woman at the desk sat me down with some magazines, took my coat and offered me tea etc whilst my hairdresser was finishing off her last client.  I wasn’t waiting long when my hairdresser sat with me and we discussed what I wanted.  I asked for ‘More volume, I want some short layers so I can give my hair more style, I want to keep the length, but I don’t mind a small trim’.

She was lovely and told me exactly what she was going to do with my hair; Wash it with some kerastase products to ensure its really conditioned, then whilst its wet she was going to trim the ends and add a few random layers all over, then she was going to dry my hair and cut a few shorter layers in.

The wash was lovely and relaxing, I think I had a work experience girl doing it though, but she knew what she was doing and did it well.  Then back in my seat, my hair was combed through… which was pretty agonizing and painful… My hair is dry, yes, but I can comb it through fine at home.  The brush and comb got full of my hair very quickly, which ended up in it making more knots in my hair, yet she didn’t empty the brush out… which I thought was odd.  Another thing which annoyed me was, she blow dried my fringe into a centre parting, when I told her I wanted to keep the side parting… so at the end when she styled my hair, it obviously kept falling back into a centre parting, which was very annoying and didn’t need to be like that.

Over all I think I spent about an hour and fifteen minutes in the salon.  To be honest I wasn’t very happy with the end result, I always feel too shy to say anything like ‘can I have it shorter, can you change this please’, so I just kept quiet, which is probably always my downfall.

newhair

In the second image above you can see how long the ‘shortest’ layer is… Not short at all, which I was quite disappointed with cause it hardly volumizes my hair, I wanted a lot shorter than that.  Also, quite a lot of length was taken off my ends which I wasn’t too happy about, along with the fact that its cut in a dead straight line, I’m more of a messy hair chick, not a dead straight line chick, if you get me!

I paid for everything myself, although I had a 50% off voucher from the friend who had her hair done before me (Recommend a Friend scheme).  So I ended up paying £22 for the cut, which without the discount would have been £44, which is extortionate.

I’ve gotten used to the change now, and I do like it, it definitely needed some change and shape, which it now has.  I’ve since washed my hair, and to be honest it kind of does look exactly the same as it did before, no one has noticed the change, which, paying £22 for, I would want people to notice.

Conclusion – The staff were lovely, the salon itself was nice and clean and well laid out, but it is a bit over priced and I didn’t get exactly what I asked for, even though I made it clear at the beginning.  I enjoyed my experience there, although I wouldn’t go back unless I had another voucher.

I went to a Rush salon last week to have my hair done. The salon was lovely but it really is true that it's all about the hairdresser listening to you and giving you what you want rather than just doing what they feel like. It can be really hard to speak up when it goes wrong – I've had some real nightmares before, but your hair looks lovely!

I love the cut!! I love voluminous hair. You look amazing! ♥

I can't stand going to the hairdresser's so I only do it about once every year and a half! I've had the same thing where they cut it bluntly across in a straight line so now I'm always sure to say I want it kind of graduated into a point. x

this always happens to me aswell 🙁

you're hair is gorgeous regardless, but i prefer the before! :S i think the after actually looks like you do have extensions, because of the bluntness, and how they chopped in the "layers" … you have stunning hair anyways!

I cant see any real difference in the front on pictures. What did they do?
Sounds like it was all about the service.

I see very little difference between before and after(the front shots)
    What did they do?
Sounds like it was 'all about the service'.

I think your hair looked better to start with. I'm always dissapointed in hair salons, never seem to get the same vision as what you describe! Sadly enough!

    Hi,

I think it is difficult to make you look bad. You look lovely.

I really hate the salon. I have been to the one on Baker street twice. I took one of their offers. waited for about 40 min before the hair dresser came and talked to me because as you said he was still finishing off someone else's hair.

Long story short. I was there for a full make over a cut and a new colour. I was there for total of 3 hours. 20 minutes before they closed he started my cut. and did a very rushed and terrible job at it. Most of the time that I was there he was putting colour on someone else's hair.

In the end the hair cut was terrible as well as the colour. None of them was what I wanted. So the second time I went there was to ask them to fix my hair so that at least the layers on both side are aligned. One side was a lot longer than the other. He claimed I am not used to the style of his hair cuts and it wasn't because he rushed it.

Another friend of mine too a student offer that they had and she had exactly the same experience. I think they are a very unprofessional salon and I would recommend everyone to stay away.

Wish I had read this before I went to Rush last week. I moved to new area and thought any salon would be able to just put in the usual one colour blonde highlights I always have, and give me a trim. I was very specific, asking them to match the colour to what I already had and do the roots as i had 6 months regrowth. They were very confident this would be simple and unproblematic. I was horrified when they took off the towel and I saw coppery glints in the mirror instead of the usual blonde. I immediately complained but was told "its ok, it will lighten up when I dry it" which is the kind of bollocks I have heard before. I have been having highlights for years, I think I know what they look like when wet!!!!! Undeterred, the idiot dried my hair, then admitted it was coppery and decided to chuck a toner on it which did nothing, followed by a stinging bleach bath massaged into my scalp for 10 minutes which also did nothing except brighten the copper, hurt my scalp and ruin the condition of my hair. Finally Mr NVQ (Not Very Qualified) called the senior stylist over for help. She seemed to be the only person who knew about colouring and admitted the only thing she could do was do the whole lot again. So after SEVEN hours in the chair I ended up with grossly over-processed peroxide blonde hair. A few years ago I used to do this myself using Smartblonde from Superdrug which cost £4 and was completed in less than an hour. After a couple years I decided to wait 2 years, save my pennies and go to a salon because I wanted more natural highlights and better condition to my hair. Rush still charged me £40 (half price) for this total disaster and I am absolutely heartbroken about it. I am looking at 18 months to 2 years before I can start again. I have since gone back to complain again and have another appointment with the senior stylist next week to try and do something to make things a little more bearable but every time I look in the mirror I feel so angry and upset. I wish I had never gone there and made the long trip back to my old salon.

I am a hairdresser don't be afraid to say you want more cut or what ever because its your money and you should have what you want! Also when you have a new client what you have in your mind and we see in our mind is different until you cut that persons hair a few times and get to know the client. To the person above alot of hairdressers hold the hair up working through the center of the head, if you have a middle parting it will fall right each side but if some one has a side parting you shouldnt cut it through the center but alot of hairdressers do it and its wrong and annoys me lol x

I went to Rush just yesterday as I had home dyed my hair from blonde to brunette and it was a little patchy and my blonde roots were starting to show. So, as a treat I popped into Rush to get an all over colour done……MISTAKE! I ended up being in the salon for over 3hrs and it was no treat.
The first stylist came over, very friendly etc, showed me the colour swatch book, we chose a colour pretty much exactly the same as my current colour (a warm light chocolate brown)? The colour she put on my head was really itchy, apparently because it was with ammonia according to the hairdressers who didn't take the colour off, just told me to stop scratching my head. After a torturous good half an hour or so my hair was washed and then we came back from the sink to dry it and guess what…..it was even more multiple coloured that it started….I had bright ginger roots, lack streaks at the front and a lot of khaki green at the back! Not amused at all at this stage, to top it off, the hairdresser tried to convince me that the colour was fine – luckily I'm not afraid to speak my mind so another girl came over (who I later learn is the 'receptionist' which is comforting). She begins to tell me that the only thing that they can do it to dye it all as dark as the front of my hair, or strip it all out with bleach but that would cost me more money, then she asked me where the colour was done – to which I replied….here! This fairly put a rocket under her and without consulting me further decided to put some kind of toner and something else on my hair to even it out into a light brown colour. After another hour and a half, and having had my hair fairly ripped to bits from the heavy handed receptionists brushing and then having had my scalp burned 3 times by her lack of drying technique (I had to tell her she was burning me and to stop), the end result is that my hair is completely BLACK still complete with patches of dark khaki!!! According to the receptionist, all I have to do is to wash my hair with washing up liquid a few times or a really harsh shampoo and the colour will fade – so I am basically being told to ruin my own hair to make up for the mess they had made, my hair looked ten times better before I went there, both in colour and condition!
To say that I was upset, angry and frustrated was an understatement, if I wanted black hair I could have done it myself. Then, I speak with this so called receptionist who informs me that I have to pay FULL price for this monstrosity, I told her to get he manager to which she replied, there is no manager working (on a Saturday in the Camden branch)?!? Wow! She gets on the phone to their head office and a most impolite woman who told me that they would only give me 25% discount on my colour because the girls had spent a lot of time on me and I needed to pay, I told her that it was disgusting that I should have to pay anything because not only is my scalp burning, my hair is black which I distinctly told them I didn't want as I am very pale, and I had wasted over 3hrs of my day to get a result I could have got at home. She offered to do a strip out for me at a later date but I told her that there was no way I was ever going back to Rush and that her making me pay was disgraceful and she told me that if I didn't pay she was calling the police…..way to go for customer services HQ. So £38 later, I am totally furious! My hair is black, my scalp is still really itchy and I've wasted three hours of my precious weekend time on a 'treat' for myself, I will personally never go back to rush and I would definitely advise others to think wisely about their choice of hairdresser.

    Hi!

I went to RUSH in Bromley last night. I booked up an appointment and was just told it would be with "Amber". Had my cut done, which was good, however I took a picture in of what I wanted it to be like, and it looks nothing like it. Not only that, but when i come to pay, they tell me that Amber is a director, so for a wash, cut and blowdry, it was £72!!!!!!!! Absolutely ridiculous and I feel like I was messed around. I spoke to head office who offered me a £20 hair dressing voucher. Which as the cheapest cut is £45, this means I'd be giving them even more money. Never going back again!!

    Hi

I went to rush in bromley yesterday. I rang earlier in the day and I was told I had an appointment at 5.30 with "Amber". I took a picture in with the cut I wanted. The cut I had was OK, but nothing like the picture, so that was disappointing. Not only that, but when I come to pay, I find out Amber was a director in the salon, so thats £72 (!!!!!!!!!) for a wash, cut and blow dry. What an absolute rip off. I spoke to head office, who offered me a £20 gift voucher which I have declined, as the cheapest hair cut is £45, so that means giving them even more of my money, for my unhappiness. Never going back.

Interesting to read reviews about Rush as I had a total nightmarish experience at Rush Sevenoaks yesterday. As it happens, the lady, Sandy who did my hair was brilliant and I was so happy with the highlights she did. When I went to pay however, that's when it all took a nasty, quite unexpected turn. There was a misunderstanding about the price I was quoted on the phone. They insisted I was wrong and had to pay double that which I'd been quoted. One of them then rang their Head Office and described (patronisingly and very incorrectly the situation). Head Office apparently told them to let me know that unless I paid the additional cost they'd call the police! I still refused on principle (worrying now about my car parking expiring) and they told me if I left without paying the extra they'd have someone follow me to my car to take my registration number! And to my utter disbelief, one of the staff actually did follow me to my car and from a distance (!) took down my number plate. As I write this now I still cannot believe that actually happened! I was treated like a criminal for what was clearly a misunderstanding! And may I add I'd already given them my home address and contact details so they could invoice me and I'd take it up with Head Office. I left feeling totally shocked and upset. I just cannot believe they would do that to their customers over a misunderstanding about prices.

Urgh Rush, wonky and uneven cut combined with bad ginger / coppery Ombré colour, went in to complain and was told the manager was not in all day?! I was very clear with what I wanted, I went in with photos etc. I now have to go back in again to try and complain and it's hard enough to muster the courage to do it the first time.
