REVIEW: ILLAMASQUA GEL SCUPLT

Contour & blush sticks are all the rage at the moment (thanks Kimmy K for making us all want perfect cheekbones & jawlines).  When Illamasqua recently launched their new Gel Sculpt sticks I was invited to their Beak Street Store to have a chat about how best to use them with their creative director Alex Box – makeup genius!

There are 3 shades available in the new Gel Sculpt range – Silhouette which looks really dark in the tube but is a really great sheer subtle brown on the skin, Charm, a bright apricot orange and Fluster, a rosy pink.

As they are gel based they are really easy to apply and work with – allowing you to really blend into the skin leaving you with a really pretty natural look.  Alex Box has quite a unique way of applying them as well as you may spot in the images above – she applies the product onto the fatty bit of skin under your thumb (no idea what this is called!) and coincidentally this part of your body fits perfectly into the contours of your cheekbones, so all you have to do is gently press & pat the lower thumb into the cheeks and it will leave a lovely natural flush of colour or contour.  You can then press around your temples & forehead for some more contouring!

I’ve been using Silhouette as a contour for a few months now and I really love it – it suits my pale skin and is very buildable for a more intense look.  I also love Charm and wear it often on my lips too!

The new Gel Sculpt’s are available from Illamasqua counters, stores or online for £22!

Would you consider swapping your powder contour for a gel formula?

It looks easy enough in your post, but whether I would be able to actually look semi-decent following those instructions is another matter. Plus it's a leetle bit pricey, if there was a drug store version I could try out first then I would consider Illamasqua's.

Maybelline has foundation sticks (as do other cosmetic brands), so just get one that's 2 or so shades darker than your skin and see how that works for you.
NikkiTutorials had this in her June Oh, God – NO's! and when she swatched it I could see why. I'd probably not waste my money because if a MUA can't make it work I'm sure I won't be able to make it work. LOL

I love the idea of these so much, I really want to try Silhouette, even if it looks scary in the pan!

I like the idea of using the hand to put it on! I might give that a go next time I contour! Lyd x

Silhouette does really look super dark but I like the idea that they're gel.

Gel and cream cheek things scare me as I normally use a liquid foundation with a powder (as I have combo skin) – everything just melts and slides into one!

I love the way the products are being used, so interesting and great for a natural flush

Interesting! I've never used a formula like this before, but I'd definitely be open to it. Love the colors.

So scared of using contour products on sticks! I just feel like I'd do a terrible job of blending, but I really want to try them! x

Any kind of cream or gel blush has always terrified me – I end up bright pink with just the powders. But the contouring bronzer seems interesting!

Now these are fascinating! I'm currently using a cream blush for the summer, but a gel might be the way to go. A bit more build-able and sheer than a cream, with the right amount of flush 🙂

Ooooh, I'm all about sticks so I just get these!! "Charm" and "Fluster" mixed together would be such a pretty color! xx
