2013 Favourites: Skin!

This is the third post in my 2013 Favourites series!  This time it’s skin; 2013 was a pretty bad year for my skin and in March I went to my doctor about how bad it was and he gave me medication for it.  Since then my skin has been a lot better but I still get the occasional spot.  Anyway, enough rambling, read on to see why these made my Top 5!

Cetaphil
Gentle Skin Cleanser:
At my doctors appointment, he
 recommended to use
Cetaphil face wash & moisturizer alongside the treatment.  I have been using them both ever since and
really love the products.  They are
really simple and not fancy at all but they work nicely to keep my skin in
order!  They aren’t the cheapish products available at around £12 each but I’ve already repurchased this cleanser twice as I love it!

Kiehls
Midnight Recovery:
This is one of my favourite
skincare discoveries to date.  I’ve never
really been one for serums or oils but it all changed once I found this.  I use this only once a week but it really
does make a difference.  I apply a few
drops before bed when my skin needs some TLC and when I wake up my skin is
plump and glowing.  I adore this!

Quinoderm:  If you suffer from bad skin,
I thoroughly recommend Quinoderm which you can purchase from behind the counter
at pharmacies for a couple of pounds.
Apply it to the affected area before bed and it really helps to keep
skin clear and dry out any blemishes.  My
whole family use this now; dad included!

Kiehls
Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50
: I can’t
express how important it is to wear SPF daily to protect your skin from UVA/B
rays and this has been my favourite of the year.  For a really high factor, this is light,
sinks in nicely and doesn’t leave my skin tacky or sticky.  I will continue to repurchase this as it’s
splendid and lasts a surprisingly long time.

Epiduo: I was unsure of whether to include this product in this post as it
was prescribed to my by my doctor and as far as I’m aware can only be gained
with prescription, but I have used it daily since getting it and it has worked
wonders on my blemished skin.  This
really keeps my skin looking clear and I never want to run out!

Next up in my 2013 is eyes… stay tuned!

What were your favourite skincare products from 2013?

Very interesting, I use a lot of dermalogica products however have never used any oil/serum based products on my skin. A lot of the time it's down to forgetting and bothering haha but the midnight recovery sounds great, especially if you only need to use it a couple of times a week!

Love these products, especially that you've included ones for acne. Most bloggers skim over that subject as it isn't a pretty one, but one that does affect a lot of us. Will be taking all these recommendations on board, thanks so much x

Great skincare products! I have been loving anything from the Tea Tree line by The Body Shop. I have used several of those products and they all did great things for my skin. I also have enjoyed the Garnier Spot Corrector daily moisturizer because it has helped evening out my skin tone.

I'm a regular user of Midnight Recovery and I loooove it, especially when paired with Hydraluron! Dying to try the Kiehls Daily Defence though – it's high on my list!! T xx

    Who doesn't love favourites-posts? 🙂
I adore my Differin gel as well. It is like Epiduo but just the 0,1% Adapalene, without the BPO (which I've used as 2,5% on its own in the past, it helped wonderfully but I became allergic) As my skin is alright now Differin is enough to keep it smooth& luminous, and retinoids are so great for anti-aging as well. <3

The Kiehl's Spf is on my list to buy this year as I'm quite terrible in regards to forgetting to wear spf.

Cetaphil is amazing! I have the shower cream and body moisteriser, it's soooo good for sensitive and irritated skin! I've had eczema since I was a baby, and it really helps when I get the occasional bought of it now (:

I really want to try Cetaphil, but they don't sell it in my country.

Cetaphil has been my miracle product. I wash my face with it in the shower, and then I use it as a moisturizer before primer.

You don't look like you have any skin problems, you look great! If you don't mind me asking, what medication did the Doctor give you?

I've just written a (rather long!) post about how I tackle acne. If you have a spare 10 mins, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Keep up the good work!

I've heard a lot of great things about the Cetaphil cleanser but I have never personally tried it. I haven't heard it in awhile but since you have just reminded me I may have to go out and give it a try!

Thanks for mentioning Epiduo in your blog post…i'm currently using Cetaphil & Quinoderm to help with my bad skin – so I'll have a word with my doctor for Epiduo as i'm looking for an extra help in fighting my acne! x

  22. January 10, 2014 / 1:33 pm

I think I saw Cetaphil at Coop the other day… I am gonna check back next week and if they indeed have it I might pick it up! Thanks for the tip 🙂

  23. January 10, 2014 / 2:24 pm

I've wanted to try Cetaphil for a while but I found a cleanser I'm happy with and don't want to rock the boat as, touch wood, my skin is behaving itself.
My local Asda pharmacy stocks Cetaphil and I'm sure it was cheaper than Boots. Might be worth you checking out your local Asda when you need to re-stock.

I hope you dont mind me asking, was it the roaccutane you went on? Im about to go on it this week and i have the cetaphil at the moment, Thinking of getting something more hydrating though whilst im on the medication… if you were on that too was cetaphil enough?

would love you to pop over and check my blog toooo 🙂

The Kiehls oil sounds really interesting. I had been using Cetaphil but am now using Alba Botanica's Hawaiian coconut milk(cleanser). So far, so good…

If you're looking for a really good facewash, I would definitely recommend the Clinique one. I've been using it for years and hardly ever have breakouts. I notice such a big difference in my skin if I stop using it for a few days. It makes your skin feel really really clean, whilst keeping it moisturised. It's absolutely fantastic! xxx

Hey Katie, thanks for the post. I'm struggling with hormonal breakouts on my chin in the middle of my cycle and right before the time of the month and I'm considering going to see a GP about it. What kind of acne did you have, and how long did it take you to see results with Epiduo?

What medication have you used most recently? Did you do a blog about it? I'm pretty fed up with my skin at the moment, I always think we shouldn't have to worry about this anymore now we're in our 20's!

I had to google the Kiehls, but I see that it contains denaturated alcohol and that always makes me oily and irritates my skin. 🙁 Also titanium dioxide does not cover the whole UVA-range.

Epiduo is an awesome product! I had it prescribed to me for acne, and it does wonders for my combo skin! Enjoyed reading! Thanks!
