2013 Favourites: Face & Base Products!

At the start of every year I try and write a list of my favourite products from the last.  I’m not gonna lie – it’s a difficult job as I’m the world’s worst decision maker and have so many favourite products so this took me a while to get together, but it’s finally here!

I’ve decided to spilt my favourites into 5 categories; hair, skin, face, lips & eyes and have chosen 5 of my favourite products in each category.  So first up, Face & Base!

Nars
Sheer Glow:
I honestly can’t remember what I
foundation I used before this came into my life.  I wear the shade Siberia which took me ages
to hunt down as it’s the palest shade and seemed to be sold out in all stores,
but I haven’t stopped wearing it since I got my hands on it.  It gives me the most even complexion and
isn’t heavy at all, despite being medium coverage.  You can read my full review on this
foundation with before and after pictures here – Nars Sheer Glow Review!

Collection
Concealer:
This is the best concealer I have ever
used. End of.  For under £5 this does an
incredible job of hiding even the nastiest of spots.  I have been through about 6 tubes of this in
2013 and predict will get through many more in 2014.

Rimmel
Stay Matte Powder:
This powder does a great job for
under £3.  It mattifies my skin and is
really easy to find on the highstreet.
Only negative is that it doesn’t include a mirror!

MAC
Melba Blusher:

I have had this blusher for an awfully long time now but 2013 saw it
being dusted off and making a regular appearance in my makeup bag.  This shade suits my pale skin perfectly and
leaves me looking delightfully blushed!

Illamasqua
Cream Pigment in Hollow:
I had my eye on this for a long time before I finally took the
plunge and added it to my Illamasqua online basket.  As a cream pigment, it can be used in a
variety of ways but I like to use it to contour my cheekbones.  It’s a buildable cream and can also be used as
an eyeshadow base.  Thumbs up from me!

I’ll be posting the rest of my favourites over the course of the next week and will be posting a video on my channel also, so stay tuned to see my other top picks!

What were your favourite base products of 2013?

I've seen so many positive reviews on the nars sheer glow foundation, but seeing as I already have around 5 foundations on the go at the minute, I really shouldn't buy another! My favorite at the minute is studio skin from Smashbox.

I will have to have a look at MAC Melba, I have been loving pink swoon but this looks a little more peachy that that.

I love the Collection concealer and the Rimmel powder – definitely staples for me as well! I also love the Collection Illuminating concealer for under your eyes, definitely worth giving a try if you like the other one!

I have yet to invest in a concealer because I'm waiting for my previous one to run out first, but I'm taking a trip to London at the end of the month and I'll definitely get my hands on the Collection Concealer, thanks for the tip 🙂 Absolutely love the new layout of your blog btw, especially the map background, think it's really really pretty just like in your bedroom! xx

Sheer Glow and Stay Matte is the best combo! And you're on the money with saying the powder could do with a mirror – then it would be the ultimate handbag essential! (a snap lock feature would also be handy!)

I love my L'Oreal True Match foundation and my Collection 2000 concealer. I love how the True Match foundation is very sheer and looks very much like real skin and with the concealer over the top it just hides any imperfections but leaves the rest of your face looking very polished 🙂

Great post, I really want to try the NARS sheer glow foundation but always wondered if it would just be like a tinted moisturiser?

I really love your reviews because I have about the same skintone as you and similar taste in products (Nars Siberia was my favourite find this year, and I almost bought Mac Melba but I decided to look around for other peach blushes first). Thanks so much for all the pictures and reviews!

Great products. I've been looking at Sheer Glow myself for a while but can't swatch it anywhere near me, so was worried it wouldn't match me. Thanks for letting me know your shade, I think from your other foundation posts we both wear similar shades so I know which to buy now. Thanks! x

I love your new site design/layout! I have to admit, bases are one of the makeup products I'm still newer in so I don't have any true standouts this year. I definitely plan on trying more in 2014 and Nars Sheer Glow is at the top of my list!

I want to try that Nars foundation. I'm due for a different one other than my MUF HD one. Love Rimmel's Stay Matte. I have that too!

  45. January 15, 2014 / 4:53 pm

Can never go wrong with Rimmel Stay Matte, such an amazing product! I use the Collection concealer quite a bit too, although I tried Rimmel's Wake Me Up concealer in 2013 and think I almost prefer it to the Collection one, the formula's a bit lighter x

I'm glad i'm not alone in thinking that collection 2000 is amazing. its definitely the best one i've tried by far. as for the rest of my base. I also use collection 2000 primer which i think is great for its low price, and their loose powder too. I do use a little bit more expensive foundation products though, I'm currently using both revlon colourstay and Bourjois healthy mix foundations. both of which i love.
