Nails Inc New Launches 2012/13

Nails Inc are making their way up to the top of my favourite nail polish ranges – as well as producing beautiful high quality polishes, they are always at the top of the game when it comes to creating new nail inventions!  At their press night a few weeks ago I was able to see some of their new collections coming out of the next year.

nails inc feathers
Bottom Image L-R – Brighton (teal and yellow), Edinburgh (pale blue and peach), York (peach & white) and Cornwall (blue & white).
Feathers – I have never seen nail polishes as beautiful as these!  These babies have a new formulation containing tiny feather like particles blended in similar pastel shades leaving you with a unique feathery nails.  These are available from March 2013 for £11 each.  I will be picking up Brighton – the teal and yellow feathers!

nails inc leather
L-R – Shoreditch Lane (Mulberry red), Soho Mews (Tan leather), Noho (Black leather).
Leather effect Range – I suspect these will be super popular when they launch in March, these polishes apply glossy but dry down to a leather look texture which will be on trend in the spring.  These polishes are to be used without a top coat as that will take away the leather effect.  I actually want all three of these polishes but for £12 each I think it might get a little pricey!

nails inc concrete
L-R Monument (lime), Stonehenge (cobalt blue), Marble Arch (tomato red) and London Wall (nude).
Concrete Nails – These polishes are textured to feel like concrete which makes them really unique and unusual.  There are three bright shades available and a neutral as well.  The caps of these polishes are also textured to show how the concrete finish will look on the nail.  I absolutely love Monument, the neon yellow/lime shade and might have to pick it up for myself along with the red!  Available for £12 each.

nails inc glitter set
Bling it on Feathers Set -  This set contains two mini nail polishes – Porchester Square & caviar Top Coat plus two Bling It Feathers pots and a dusting brush.  The set allows you to create your very own glittery feather look.  The glitters themselves are beautiful and glisten to beautifully in the light and Porchester Square makes the most perfect base coat for this!

nails inc bling it set
Bling it on Neon set – This set is the same as the Bling it Feathers, except it contains two pots of neon glitters and a white polish (named Floral Street).  I love that you are creating your own unique nails with these sets.  For £20 I think they make a beautiful gift set too!  Launches in May.

Top Row – Spring Summer Nails L-R St James Park (pastel cherry red), Royal Botanical Gardens (pastel mint), Chelsea Physic Garden (pastel blue), Kensington Palace Gardens (pastel peach).  These beauties are out in March and are described as the perfect glossy shades inspired by S/S catwalk trends.
Bottom Row – Denim Effect – The last up of the textured nail polishes, this metallic blue shade has a denim like texture.  Applies as a gloss and dries to a denim effect after 30 seconds!  Launching in June in a set with star embellishments for £19.

There w have it!  I have to say that I am so impressed with Nails Inc and all their new nail inventions, they never fail to suprise me and all I can think of is, what will they do next!

Which range are you most looking forward to?  Are you a Nails Inc fan?

How to: DIY Chocolate Face Mask!

For the last few weeks I have been trying out something a little different, all in the name of research for my blog!  I have been trialling and testing out DIY at home beauty regimes and products and getting dirty in ingredients from my kitchen to see if they really work better than  products you splash out in on the high street.

Over the next few weeks I will be revealing my results from: a DIY avocado, honey & olive oil hair mask, an olive oil & aloe vera water makeup remover, a honey & sugar body scrub, but first up we have a chocolate face mask!

I have acne prone skin and because of this I don’t like using face masks on my skin in case of irritation, however I found a chocolate face mask recipe online which seemed too fun to not try.  Chocolate is good for dry skin (which I also have) so I decided to give it a go.

You can watch my video below to see exactly how to make it, how to apply and what the results were!

How to make:
Ingredients: 100g (3.5oz) dark chocolate, ½ a pint (1 cup) of milk, 3 tbsp salt

o Add salt to the milk, stir until salt dissolves
o Put a heat proof bowl over a pan ¼ full of water on a medium heat. Make sure the bowl isn’t touching the water.
o Break up the chocolate into the bowl, and stir until it melts. Once melted take the bowl off the heat.
o Add the salty milk mixture to the melted choc and stir in.
o Cover your shoulders with a towel so you don’t get chocolate all over your clothes
o Apply face mask while it is still warm (but not burning hot) to your face with a wooden stick or hands.
o Leave mask on for 15 mins before washing off with warm water.

Will you be trying my DIY Chocolate Face Mask out?

Stay tuned for my DIY Hair Mask, Makeup Remover and Body Scrub videos!

P.S I went onto Pixiwoo’s Body Talk show to chat to the girls about the experiments I have been doing, I’ll of course put up the video when it goes live!

Rimmel Apocalips Swatches & Review!

Okay guys and girls – I have been ridiculously excited to feature these on my blog because in three words – I LOVE THEM!  I am definitely a lipstick  girl; I wear them most days and have a collection that I am ashamed to admit that I own.  Lip glosses on the other hand are my worst enemy – I have never got on with them, I hate the feeling of sticky, tacky lips and I prefer to have a lot of colour or pigment in a lip gloss where as most are sheer.

However, recently, I was invited to the launch of the new Rimmel Apocalipses!  At first I was intrigued and then I had a play with them and instantly fell in love.  I can’t wait to show you guys how amazing they are so for now I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

L-R 500 Luna, 600 Nude Eclipse, 101 Celestial, 102 Nova, 301 Galaxy, 303 Apocaliptic, 501 Stellar, 400 Big Bang

apocalips 4

See just how wonderful they are!  Along with the incredible pigmentation of these products, they are not sticky - when I wear them my hair never gets caught in the them.  I adore the colour selection available, my favourites being Stellar, Luna and Celestial… I wore Stella, the orange based red to the Daily Mix Launch and received many compliments and also got to test out their staying power.  I applied this at 5pm and it lasted me well until I got home at 1am (I only retouched it once around 9pm!).

I suspect Nude Eclipse will be a very popular shade when this hits stores – at first I thought it was horrendous and discarded it as I don’t think pale shades suit me, but whilst testing it out for the photos above, it’s actually stunning and very easy to wear.  Luna – the peach will also be a popular one as you can never go wrong with peachy pink lips!

These babies will be available to purchase in early January (I wish they were out sooner because my Mum too is in love with them and until they come out she is gonna keep stealing mine!) for the incredible price of just £5.99.

Will you be giving Apocalips a go?  What shade is your favourite?

Bourjois Paris Blue Moonlight Nail Polishes: Swatches!

Bourjois are back with two new incredible nail polishes in their new Winter range named the Paris Blue Moonlight Collection.  Read on for mini reviews and swatches!

Nail Enamel #16 Blue Moonlight is the most striking metallic blue black I have ever seen.  On the nails it looks like a deep navy black but in any kind of light it glistens a metallic dark blue.  #17 Gris Nightomic is a glistening silver metal shade – on the nails this is just sublime, it really shimmers the most beautiful shine in the light.

As usual, the quality of the polishes are incredible  the blue shade needs only ONE coat to look perfect – it is super pigmented, making it so easy and quick to apply.  The brush on these polishes is nice and flat, described as a fan effect brush, which means it almost covers the whole nail so one sweep is almost enough to complete a layer!

These polishes retail at £5.99 and are available in high street drugstores. Also in the collection are two new Smokey Eyes Trio Palettes, so keep an eye out for them in shops near you!

Will you be keeping an eye out for these polishes?   What’s your favourite winter nail shade?

Glossy Box and Jolie Box December 2012 Review & Contents. Comparison!

I received both my Glossybox and Jolie box on the same day this month so I thought I might as well stick them both into one post and give them each a little write up!

Glossybox December 2012

Lemon EDP by Mary Greenwell – I’m more of a fan of vanilla and wood based scents where as this is super fruity so it isn’t my personal cup of tea.  It’ll be going straight into my sample and sachet bag.

Rituals Magic Touch Cherry Blossom & Rice Milk – I love Rituals body products are being introduced to their Foaming Shower Gel in last year’s December Glossybox and this doesn’t disappoint.  This body moisturizer makes my hands feel soft and it smells great.  Also a great size for travelling.

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Stiletto – Sleek makeup are in my top 3 makeup brands on the high-street so I was very excited to see this brand in the box.  I already own this lipstick in Stiletto (which is the most perfect glam red shade) so I’ll probably let my Mum or Sister fight over who gets to keep it!  You can see my Sleek lipstick swatches here and here.

Seche Nail Polish – I’ve never tried this nail brand before despite hearing lots about their famous Seche Vite top coat which is apparently a miracle product, so I’m looking forward to giving this plum pink polish a try.

Glossybox Blusher – I always find that whenever Glossybox put a product of their own in their boxes, the products are usually very poor and cheap looking (like the blusher brush received a few months ago which is ridiculously scratchy on my skin).  This blusher does look cheap but the colour is nice and pigmented and doesn’t look chalky on the skin.

Jolie Box December 2012

Natural Honey Body Milk – Oh my gosh this is just divine!  I really, really love the smell of this product although I can’t put my finger on what it reminds me of (I think it slightly resembles the fragrance of the Clynol Colour Care hair range which I love!).  This cream sinks in quickly to the skin leaving it soft!

I love… Strawberries and Milkshake Lip Gloss – Another incredible smelling product although I dislike lip glosses so I’ll be passing this on to someone who will get lots of use out of it.

Olay Regenerist Skin Cream – I already have a sample of this so will pass this onto Mum.  I do like Olay products but they all seem to be catered for those especially after anti aging products.  Saying that, it really is never to early to start using them yourself.

Bella Pierre Shimmer Powder Pink  - This is a bright pink shimmery eye shadow powder but I think pink eye shadow always looks horrendous so I will try this out lightly as a blusher instead.  This is a full size product though which is nice!

Colour Club ‘Put a Pin In It’ Nail Polish – A gorgeous mini sparkly polish for the winter season!

Doctor Duve Hand and Nail Cream – I like hand creams but I dislike sachets of product, much preferring a little tube or pot as they are easier to try out.

Agua De Colonia Concentrada – This fragrance is over 100 years old which is quite interesting (I love products with a story).

What I think – Both of these boxes have a selection of good and not so good products.  I love that Sleek have been featured in Glossybox, Sleek are one of my fav brands ever and a lot of people have never heard of them so I’m glad they’re getting some recognition.  The body lotions in both boxes are absolutely lovely and I can’t wait to test them out all winter!   However, last December I was really impressed with the contents of both of these boxes so this Christmas has been a little let down in the beauty box department.   You can see last years Glossybox December Box Review here & JolieBox’s December Box here.

Which box do you prefer this month?  Will you be keeping your subscriptions in the New Year?

Frontcover True Colours Kit Review!

When I think of Christmas beauty gifts I automatically think of Front Cover – they are ideal for girls who are just getting into makeup and want to experiment a little more!  I fell in love with the True Colour kit once I laid eyes on it so here is what I think of it in detail.

This kit includes everything you need to create a variety of looks this autumn – 6 domed baked powder eye shadows, 5 satin powder eye shadows, 5 lip glosses, two nails polishes, an eye pencil with a smudger, a double ended mascara, a rounder shader brush, a mini blender brush and a lip brush.

I love that the kit includes all brushes you need to create a look as well as an eyeliner and mascara – you literally have everything in one kit.  The eye shadows are just beautiful – so soft and have velvety and shimmery textures which are super easy to apply.  The lip-glosses are also surprising, being very creamy and full of colour so you can create a multitude of looks.

Now, you might have heard that Frontcover is now no longer sold in Boots stores!  I was pretty shocked when I heard this as it’s my number one place to go to browse these kits.  They are now only sold online at their website and in Sephora stores (which we unfortunately have none of in the UK – come here Sephora!).  I do think this is a real shame because I like to see products, especially makeup, in real life before I purchase anything so now I guess we’ll all just have to rely on reviews and swatches before we make a decision on whether to buy or not!

Are you a fan of Front Cover kits?  What do you think of the move from Boots – will you still purchase?

Sleek Sparkle 2 Palette Review & Swatches!

Without a doubt Sleek makeup is one of my absolute favourite makeup brands, their palettes being one of my favourites in particular.  Every now and then (a few times a year) Sleek bring out Limited Edition palettes which are relevant to the current fashion trends or occasions (for example the Olympic palette released last spring).  You may vaguely remember that last Christmas, Sleek released a ‘Sparkle’ palette, and this year they are back with ‘Sparkle 2’!

The first thing that stands out with this palette is in fact how sparkly it really is!  The shadows glisten and really dazzle in the light (note I didn’t photoshop those sparkles on in the palette pics above!).  Although sparkly, the eye shadows are smooth and don’t contain chunky bits of glitter (which is rare for such inexpensive shadows).

As usual, I prefer the more shimmer based ones (which Sleek Palettes do SO well) such as Chocolate Penny and especially Truffle, it’s stunning.  Twinkle, Festive and Mulled Wine are my favourite glitter shadows as they are pigmented and are spot on shades for autumn/winter.  I can’t get enough of berry shades at the moment and so this palette fills that obsession.

All in all, I do recommend this palette to those looking for some glittery shadows to spruce up their makeup over this festive season.  You will be able to create a variety of looks to last you over the period and throughout the new year too.

This palette hits stores and online on 5th December for £7.99 (pretty good deal for 12 shadows).

Will you be wearing glittery/sparkly shadows this Winter?  What’s your favourite shade in this palette?

Power to Generation M (Photography!)

Since graduating with a photography degree in 2011, a camera has never ever left my side.  I practically take one everywhere and shoot absolutely anything that inspires me, and the only brand of camera I have ever used is of course, Canon.  I have a powershot which I carry around in my handbag and I use a 7D or 350D for photography work and blogging.  Canon is a brand which I love and will use for the rest of my photography career (you can see my photog website here) (also - I haven’t really spoken about this on my blog before but I actually started shooting weddings this year and enjoy it so much that I hope to do more of it!).

Anyway, enough about me, Canon have recently launched a new camera, the EOS M (which might I add I am already drooling over!).  To celebrate the launch, Canon selected 5 influential people and challenged them to create an original piece of art with the new camera.  Being a beauty obsessive, Sophie Beresiner’s video is my personal favourite (although all five videos are all inspiring and want to make me get out there and shoot!).  Sophie is the editor of Look magazine (I actually met her a few years ago and definitely had a fan girl moment).  In her video she creates a still life photograph with a beauty editorial twist.

I urge you to have a watch of the videos if you are into art and also a photography geek.   You can watch all of the videos over at this link here on the vice website!

Are you a Canon lover like me?  Would you guys like to see some of my photography work?

(contains paid for content, but I had to share this as I'm such a photography geek!)

Current Makeup Bag Favourites #1

I’ve decided to start a new little feature over here on Katie’s Beauty Blog, named Current Makeup Bag Favs.  I often switch up my makeup bag and the products which I use daily and love, but often forget to mention or write about (probably because I just assume that everyone knows about them!) – so here I can rave about how much I’ve been loving them and bring them to your attention!
makeup bag favs
I recently ran out of my MAC’s Blacktrack Fluidline liner and was using a liquid pen type liner but realised I really missed gel liner.  So I went along to Boots and purchased the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner and hoped it would be a cheaper alternative and I really do love it.  It is so similar to the MAC fluidline, it leaves a thick, pigmented line of colour on my eyelid and is incredibly soft, creamy and easy to use.  It also comes with a little brush for applying which is fab.
I have been carrying around a few Clinique products in my bag recently – the Lid Smoothie in Cashew Later which makes for a gorgeous shimmery nude base for eye shadows (which I wear on top of my Urban Decay Primer Potion, pictured above!).  I’ve also been LOVING the new Chubby Sticks Intense.  As you know I love my lipsticks – this is like a moisturizing lippie with an incredible burst of colour.  I have the shade Curviest Caramel, which is a natural, nude brownish pink which is makes my lips look incredible.  I highly recommend these!
Over the top of my eye bases, I’ve been loving the Smooch eye shadow Duo in Seattle which includes a shimmery gold and a greyish brown eye shadow which I’ve been using along with my Rimmel Brow Pen (as a brow filler AND an eyeliner) and my Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara to create an easy smokey eye.
Recently I have been becoming more and more concerned with fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes (I am in my mid 20s now and need to start working on preventing these!) and so I have been using Eysilix every morning before I apply my makeup to my eye area.  I haven’t noticed any effects but I feel like I’m at least doing something to help this area of skin!
Finally, two staples by MAC have been creating my daily look – the Studio Finish Concealer in NW15 (this must be my fourth pot, I get through them like crazy) which I use to touch up throughout the day, and MAC’s Strada Blush (now unfortunately discontinued) which is my perfect contour shade for winter.
There we have it – my favourite daily makeup bag favourites!  Let me know if you enjoyed reading this and I’ll be sure to make it more of a regular feature!
What’s currently in your makeup bag?  Do you use eye creams before applying makeup?

Estee Lauder Christmas Launches!

I recently trotted down to a little launch of Estee Lauders new Christmas Seasonal  ranges a few weeks ago and having browsed their new launches, I thought they were definitely worth bringing to your attention too!

esteelaudernails ESTEELAUDEREYE
L-R Fallen Angel, Love Bite.

I am very, very excited about the launch of the new Estee Lauder Pure Color Stay-On Shadow Paints Collection (picture above).  They look and feel very similar to MAC’s paintpots – they are extremely pigmented and feel so soft on the skin.  i love the colour range available, from silver, to nude, to black to green, there will be a shade that everyone falls in love with.  They will retail at £19 and will be available from January.

Also pictured above are three new collections of nail polishes!  First up are the New Pure Colour Nail Lacquer Red Hautes Collection which contains five different shades of red which are sure to be a match for every skin tone and occasion in the upcoming festive period.  I have swatched two of them on my nails for you above – Fallen Angel is a deep classic red which I have been wearing recently for a mature look.  The other, Love Bite, is more of a deep pink which would be neon if it were any brighter.  I am wearing this on my toes at the moment and I can’t get enough of it.

What I love most about all the nail polishes are the exquisite chunky glass bottles.  They are super glamorous and luxurious – each polish retails at £14.50 which I think is expensive for a polish, but the bottle and quality make up for it.

There is also a kit of four nail polishes available in a makeup bag, named the Art of Nails which retails at £24 for the lot, making it more affordable.  You might have also spotted a few gorgeous pastel shade polishes in the photo above – they will be released around Spring – I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these!

Will you be asking for any of these on your Christmas list this year?
