Avon Guest Blogger!

I have some very, very exciting news to share with you all today!  I was recently chosen to be Avon UK’s Official Guest Blogger on their blog throughout November and December!

Over on their blog I’ve been creating looks using their products (with video and photographs), reviewing products and I’ve even started showcasing some fashion posts!

I thought I’d leave you with a few sneak peeks of posts which are coming up on their blog over the next few weeks, including how to create a purple smokey eye, everyday makeup, how to wear a LBD and Whats in My Bag!)

I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think – I’m very excited about it and can’t wait to hear your reaction!

You can read the blog here!

What do you think of Avon products?  What’s your fav?

What I’ve Been Up To #1

I have never done one of these posts before but I have been up to SO much recently, so I thought I’d put it all together in one post.  I know a lot of bloggers do these and I love reading them, so maybe some of you will enjoy this too!

London Dungeons with Blackberry – You may remember seeing that back in October Lily and Zoe held a party at the London Dungeons with Blackberry and oh my gosh, it was ridiculously fun.  Imagine a group of beauty bloggers running from costumed men and going on scary rides – the whole place was filled with the sound of screams!  I got suitably tipsy, got ‘zombied’ up and even had tarot cards read!  I would do it all over again if I could!   Can you spot some of your fav beauty bloggers here?

The Beauty Awards 2012 – I was recently invited to The Beauty Awards 2012 and had a great evening! I had the chance to meet and chat to Dawn Porter and Andrex about their new ‘clean campaign’ which is all about their Andrex Washlets, which encourages women to wipe ‘down there’ with their wet washlets every time you go to the loo! A little bit of a taboo or controversial/embarrassing topic but Dawn Porter is definitely the woman to front the campaign – she is so honest and will talk about anything! Watch out for the Andrex Washlets advert which was filmed at the Beauty Awards (I can vouch that the wipes themselves are fab! Maybe I’ll even review them for you, if you’re lucky, ha!).

The event itself was fun – I sipped champagne next to Amy Childs and Denise Van Outen (and got a cheeky snap), had the most incredible beef steak dinner and had fun in a photo booth with Fei, Jen, Laura and Ondo!

Motel Rocks Event – Last week I headed to East London with Zoe and Lina for the Motel Rocks autumn/winter party at Floripa bar.  After browsing the absolutely gorgeous party dresses we had a few glasses of cocktails and then made a raucous in the photobooth!

In terms of my personal life - it has been very up and down recently!  If you follow my instagram (@katesnooks) you might have seen that my relationship with my boyfriend recently ended.  It has been tough, it wasn’t a decision I wanted to make, but I’m trying to maintain the quote that everything happens for a reason and keep positive about it.  When you go from speaking to somebody you really care about everyday, to not speaking at all, it is so tough and it hurts even though you know that it couldn’t go on how it was.  Anyway, I’ve been trying to keep busy and stay positive and know that one day I will meet my prince charming.   If anyone has some encouraging words on how to move on/forget about someone, that would be very helpful, because admittedly I am still finding it hard.

Forgetting all of that – I am incredibly happy;  I ADORE my job and have never been happier with my working life.  It’s stressful at times and super busy but I love it – I work with the loveliest bunch of people and have just been made permanent and full time so I couldn’t be happier!  One part of my job at the moment is organizing the Daily Mix TV Launch party which is going to be the party of the year – stay tuned for pictures!

Spot any of your fav bloggers in this post?  Would you like this to be a regular feature?  And have you got any love advice for me, haha!?

Cover FX Cream Foundation Before & After Review!

I recently popped along to an event to celebrate the launch of Cover FX’s new fall products.  They have recently repackaged and reformulated a few of their base products, in particular their Total Cover Cream Foundations and Powder Foundations and have extended the shade range to include an impressive 28 shades, so there will be a perfect match for everyone!

After being matched up to the Total Cover Cream Foundation and having been testing it for a good few weeks, I thought I would show you before and after shots with the foundation to show you how good it really is!

(sorry for the horrid before shots, I’ve been super run down lately and have been drinking too much alcohol and milky hot chocolate, giving me terrible skin!).

As normal, I will review the product in the specific categories that I most rate foundations for!

Colour: The colour range is amazing and there are even two shades lighter than me available.  I am an N20 in this foundation although I think in the winter I could probably do with a little lighter.  There are three colour categories: N which is neutral skin tones, G which is golden tones and P which is pink tones – there really is a shade for everyone.  I urge you to go and check the other shades out.

Formula/Texture: This is a thick and creamy cream which has a full coverage when applied on the face.  You can build this up to have more coverage in particular places on bad skin.  I love how this looks on my skin although I do find my skin gets quite oily through the day so it doesn’t last as long as I’d hoped.

Price: I personally think this quite expensive at £37.  I do think it will last a while as you don’t need to use much, but still I’d tag this as a luxurious product.  The results however are pretty incredible so it may be worth it to some people?

SPF: Contains SPF30 which is perfect for all year round!

Extras:  Packaging is good, contains a mirror and a little sponge to apply, which is hidden under a flap underneath the cream, although I prefer using a brush so I think its a little unnecessary.

What I think – I obviously really, really do love this foundation – it has an incredible coverage and lasts pretty well on the skin although I definitely think I need a shade lighter.  For £37, I’m not positive I would purchase it again, but probably only because it is so similar to my favourite foundation which is MAC’s full coverage (review here).  I would highly recommend this to girls with blemished and acne prone skin as it does a tremendous job of concealing  imperfections!

This foundation is available to purchase from the Harvey Nichs website!

What’s your favourite high coverage foundation?  Are you tempted to try this?

Lolita Lempicka Si Lolita Perfume Review!

Okay, something crazy is happening!  Has anyone at all noticed that I have never, ever reviewed a perfume properly on my blog in the past three years that I’ve been writing it?  CRAZY!  Well, this has to change and I’ll start off with one of my most recent favourites!

I have been the biggest Lolita Lempicka fragrance fan since the very beginning, I literally bathed in the stuff when I was 15-19 (really, literally, I had the shower gel!) but I began to loose touch with it as I entered my 20s.  The original is absolutely divine and smells like a sweet, vanilla, liquorice, topped with a subtle musky, powdery scent.  Then, in May this year I was lucky enough to receive a little sample of Si Lolita in a Glossybox.  From the first sniff I fell in love with Lempicka all over again!

Si Lolita is a slightly more mature fragrance than the original Lempicka fragrance, but still has that same base note of musky powder (like a nice talcum powder) but it is topped with divine spicy notes such as amber, what smells like sandalwood and sweet pea.  This fragrance also contains pink peppercorn (which isn’t surprising – I absolutely adore Viktor & Rolf’s Spicebomb which also contains peppercorn, this is almost like a woman’s version) making it a great fragrance to wear all year round.

As with all Lolita Lempicka fragrances, the bottles themselves are little works of art and very unique, making it an absolute pleasure to keep on my dressing table.

I bought this fragrance from a great little website called Perfume Click and it arrived super speedily (within 3 days).  The website has mega, mega discounts on it which is why I originally chose it.  This 80ml fragrance normally retails at £62, however I purchased it for only £24.84!  Bargain.  You can visit the website here -

What’s your current favourite fragrance?  Do you like Lolita Lempicka perfumes?

How to do smokey eyes with the HD Brows palette!

Watch for the tutorial!

One of my most loved eye shadow palettes is the HD Brows palette!  I received this in a Glossybox a year ago now and it’s still going strong, even after daily use!  I use the shadows in this palette on most days to create my signature smokey look and thought I’d film a tutorial showing you how to recreate this look!

To create this look I used Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation, MAC’s Nylon Eye shadow, the HD Brows palette, Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner, Sleek Twist Up Eye Pencil in Midnight, Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in dolce and Sleek’s Barely There lipstick!

I really hope you enjoy this video!  If you stay tuned till the end, you can see close ups of each products!  Let me know if you like this addition!  I’m also trying to get a little more ‘into' YouTube, so if you would subscribe to my channel I’d be over the moon!

What is your favourite eye shadow palette?  Do you use the HD Brow Palette for eye shadow as well as brows too?

November Glossybox 2012 Contents & Review!

Glossybox say this is the ‘stocking filler’ box, allowing you to find miniature beauty favourites that would be perfect stocking fillers this Christmas!

Alison Claire Mango Body Butter – You can never have too many body butters (okay, that’s a lie!).  I have a little thing where I am obsessed with moisturizing my elbows and keeping them super soft (there's nothing worse than wrinkly, dry, chalky elbows) and this is exactly the perfect texture and consistency to help moisturize those dry bits of skin.  The size of this body butter is perfect too , as its winter and my ezcema is starting to flare up a bit so this will be a handbag staple all winter!

Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Top Coat – I already own this top coat but am running out so I’m happy to get this again!  I love how tiny and cute this bottle is – again, perfect for touch ups!

Burberry Body EDP – I know not everyone loves a perfume sample in their Glossybox, but this Burberry one comes in the most stylish packaging, it’s like a proper little perfume rather than just a sample spray.  The smell is spot on for autumn/winter as it is a sensual, warm fragrance containing notes of peach, vanilla, amber, musk, rose and sandalwood etc.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – I’ve already used this microfoliant a few times since receiving it and it does a good job of gently exfoliating the skin.  This is a white powder (which smells like sherbet) and when mixed with water turns into a paste which you rub into your skin, leaving it super soft!

Dr Jart Water Fuse Beauty Balm – I have wanted to try this for ages and now I finally can!  This is a BB cream which I will probably use underneath foundation (as my skin does need medium coverage).  I’ll update back on how I get on with it!

What I think – When I first opened this box I got really excited because I genuinely will use every single product in this box!  Normally there is a product or two in each box which are so-so, but these are all perfect for me and I’m really excited to use them all!

What did you get in your November Glossybox?  Would you like these in your Christmas stocking?

October 2012 Favourites!

Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation – This is the foundation I have been reaching for on most days throughout October.  My skin was playing up last month and I had very blemished skin (probably down to stress and bad eating!) but this full coverage foundation helped to conceal blemishes.  It is quite thick and heavy but works really well when buffed into the skin with the Real techniques Buffing Brush.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick – My most used lip product through October was this (as well as my holy grail lippie which is Sleek’s Barely There).  I really want some more of these liquid lipsticks as they have the most incredible pigment meaning you only have to use the tiniest bit to achieve a coloured lip.  This shade (dolce) is a pretty perfect pink with a hint of gold shimmer which looks natural and compliments my skin.

Timotei Pure Dry Shampoo – Timotei are back!  I used to use the range when I was little but now they’ve reformulated their products to contain no parabens etc and have launched a dry shampoo as well.  This dry shampoo is cheap and cheerful and works well to disguise greasy hair.  The smell is not my favourite of all dry shampoos I have tried (it’s like a gentle musky smell) but I would repurchase because it does the job!

Skinetica Anti Blemish  - This was in the October Glossybox and I really like it.  After taking my makeup off, I pour some of this onto a cotton wool pad and sweep it over my skin, especially where it is blemished.  It removes all extra dirt and grime (like a toner would) but also helps blemishes!

Neal & Wolf Super Shine Spray – Another hair product, this time from Neal & Wolf (a luxury brand which I love!).  This spray adds the most subtle, healthy glow and shine to my hair which I adore, without making it look greasy.  This also smells delicious!  Available from

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk – I worked out that I read five books in October, impressive, huh!  This was one of them which I read on holiday in Croatia.  It’s quite a small book but I got into it straight away.  I hadn’t ever watched Fight Club the film so I had nothing to compare it too (I always personally prefer to read the book before watching the film) but I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.  I really recommend it if you are after a quick read!

What products did you use most last month?  Did you read any books in October?

Millie Mackintosh Mayfair False Lashes Review!

I’ll admit now that I am a massive Made in Chelsea fan and have watched it since the beginning!  I know, I know, but one of the reasons I can’t get enough of it is how perfect the girls look all the time.  When Millie Mackintosh announced that she was launching a beauty product I was very intrigued and couldn’t wait to give them a go!

I love false lashes but don’t wear them often; only for special occasions. A lot of lashes I have tried in the past have felt very uncomfortable whilst wearing them, and also very heavy, which is why I only wear them every now and then.

I tried Millie’s lashes in ‘Mayfair’ which are long yet natural looking lashes. I wore these out on a night out with Lina (blog here!) and I can tell you now that I am a MASSIVE fan! I have never worn lashes as comfortable as these in my life. I hardly even noticed I was wearing them. They didn’t itch my lash line, they didn’t feel heavy and I applied them with so much ease that I would even think about wearing these on a more regular basis. I think it’s down to the fact that they have such a thin and light strip that makes them so comfortable. These lashes are also 100% human hair which also means they feel natural and not spikey as some false lashes do.

The lashes also come with a latex free adhesive glue and a pair of tweezers which make applying them nice and easy.

I would really recommend these to anyone who would like to wear falsies a little more regularly, or those who have never worn them before and want to give falsies a try over this upcoming festive period.  I have another pair of Millie’s lashes still to try out (Soho – very dark and fluttery, perfect for parties!) so I’ll update again once I’ve tried those out!

What are your favourite false eyelashes?  Have you tried Millies yet?

Glam Glow Mud Mask Review!

More and more recently I have found myself preferring just to stay at home and have a long, relaxing bath and pamper evening rather than going out and socializing.  Don't get me wrong - I've always been one who would rather stay at home with friends, a film or even a book rather than clubbing and dancing all night, but recently I've relished every moment I have to myself in the evening and have been spending that time doing little things to make myself feel better.  I have been on a bit of a downer recently (I'm not always this serious, don't worry!) but these little pamper sessions do me the world of good just to cheer me up.

One thing I have recently started taking the time to do is face masks!  I normally steer clear of face masks because of my acne prone skin, but after hearing all the buzz about a new face mask that has hit the scene, I wanted to find out what the fuss was about!  Enter the Glam Glow Mud Mask, which is available from Gorgeous Shop.  I got my hands on a sample size (only 10mls!) and although that only lasted me one use, I can safely say that I really like it and want a full size to try again and again.

This mask is made from mud and includes ancient volcanic pumice rock, super antioxidants and minerals.  It has a green/greyish colour and a grainy texture which you can feel whilst smoothing onto your skin.  A lot of people who have tried this mask said they experience an almost unbearable tingling sensation with this mask but I experienced no tingling at all (or maybe a slight tingle but nothing as bad as I was expecting).  This mask drys rock hard - so much so that I could hardly open my mouth after 10 minutes, let alone frown!  After 20 or so minutes I washed it off in circular motions with my fingers and hot water.  Afterwards, my skin felt extremely smooth and soft, like babies skin!  Blemishes were a little less red and I'm so glad to say that using this mask didn't make my skin break out at all.

The only negative I can find about this product is the price.  I would love nothing more in the world than to be able to afford a full size of this face mask (it's around £50 for 50mls!) but Gorgeous Shop offer it at a discounted price - £38.95, available here -

Have you tried this mask?  What did you think?  What is your favourite face mask?
