My First Empties Post & Video!

I finally got round to filming a video on beauty products I have recently used up and finished.  I love reading these types of posts; it’s great to see what products people actually use up and to hear whether or not they would repurchase it and so I really wanted to make one myself!

I hope you liked this short video and found it easy to watch!  Let me know if you enjoyed it and I’ll film more every few months or so!
What products have you finished recently?  Have you been using any of the same products as me?

Real Techniques Brushes Review – Powder & Expert Face Brush

Real Techniques brushes have become a recent phenomena in the beauty world that beauty bloggers and vloggers alike have been using daily.  I have become a little obsessed with this range of brushes and unashamedly now own almost all of them and so the time has come to finally share these beauties with you guys!

Today I’m reviewing two brushes used for the base – the Powder Brush and the Expert Face Brush.

Powder Brush – This is by far the largest brush I own and also the softest and most gentle on my skin.  Before using this, I used to use The Body Shop’s Face & Body Brush which was good but not as good as this.  I find that the hairs on this brush are of a perfect density to pick up the perfect amount of powder to blot your face with.  I swirl this brush into my chosen powder, tap of the excess, and slightly dust over my face which leaves me with a layer of powder which doesn’t make me look cakey or chalky, nor does it leave me oily.

Expert Face Brush – I started using the Expert Face Brush after trying out the RT Buffing Brush (which I adore and will review soon!).  This one is similar but the hairs are much denser, meaning that it picks up more product and leaves you with a heavier coverage when applying foundation.  I use this brush when my skin is particularly bad and just buff the cream or liquid foundation into my skin in circular motions.

What I Think – I am now a RT convert and use them every single day.  I can’t wait to review the other brushes for you guys, as they are a pleasure to use.  One thing that makes them so great is they are easily accessible in most Boots stores and they retail at a great price.  These brushes are of such a high quality (so soft, not scratchy on the skin in the slightest) and will last a very long time, so for £9.99 and £12.99, I highly recommend them!

Do you own any Real Techniques brushes?  What is your favourite brush range?

Skye Candles Review

When I am feeling down or like I need a pamper, lighting a few candles in my bedroom is the first thing I do.  They instantly make me feel calm, add a romantic feel to the air and if they are scented and fill the air with a gorgeous scent then they’re even better!

I’ve recently discovered the Skye Candle Company and after burning them for a while, I think it’s time to tell you what I think!

My favourite scents in general are woody, sensual, sweet fragrances, like vanilla, sandalwood, cinnamon, caramel, toffee, nutmeg etc so I chose three scents from the Skye Candle Company, Vanilla & Fig which has a sweet but subtle fragrance, Cinnamon (my personal favourite) which smells like Big Red chewing gum and finally Ginger & Nutmeg which is very autumnal warm, homely scent.

One thing I love about these candles is that they do not burn black smoke (which I have experienced with some previous candles, they must be terrible for your lungs!) and they burn evenly and have so far lasted a very long time.  The scents do not smell as strong as when burning home fragrance oils in my Body Shop Oil Burner, but this can sometimes be a good thing because the fragrance isn’t too overpowering.

The Skye Candle Company is a family run business (which I love the idea of) and is based in Scotland, all handmade and of top quality.  You can purchase the candles in different sizes – small tumblers like the Vanilla (£9.99), Travel Containers like the Cinnamon (£7.99), Large Tumblers (£14.99) or Three Wick candles which let of a stronger scent (£19.99).

You can purchase the candles and browse on their website -

What are your favourite scented candles?  I’d love it if you could recommend me some more!

October Glossybox AND the Exclusive Edition Think Pink box - Contents & Review!

I’m serving up a double whammy Glossybox post for you lucky lot today!  If you are already a subscriber to Glossybox, then this month you will have the chance to receive TWO boxes.  The first is the October box and the second is a new project that GB are working on – the Think Pink Exclusive Editions box.

I have reviewed both boxes below so read on for product contents and reviews!

The October Boxglossyboxoctober

The October Glossybox is all about DIY beauty at home and it contains a selection of products from skin to body to nail care to give you all the ingredients you need to have a beauty pampering session in the comfort of your own home!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish – I’ve never tried a Sally Hansen nail polish despite always hearing loads about the range, so I’m looking forward to trying this.  I received a bright pink shade which is one of my favourite nail polish shades (although would have been more suitable in the summer months!).

Skinetica Anti-Blemish – This is by far my favourite product in the box because I love trying out new anti-blemish products.  I have quite bad skin at the moment and this has cleared it right up (my mum even said how nice my skin looked after two days of using this).  You pop some of the liquid onto a cotton pad and sweep it on the affected areas.  Normally these types of products really dry my skin out but I have had no side effects from this – which is fab!

The Organic Pharmacy Enzyme Peel Mask – Face masks always leave me with pimples so I don’t use them often at all, but I think I might just try this one as it refreshes the skin with Vitamin C and Papaya, which I really do need at the moment as I have the flu!

Anatomicals Scrub it Body Scrub – I have way too many body scrubs because I love having soft skin, so I don’t need another but regardless I will still try this – although I really detest the pink grapefruit smell!

Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal Instant Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer – Having turned 24 last month I think it’s about time I start using anti-wrinkle products (better to catch them now than in 10 years time!).  This one sounds lovely so I’ll probably update you all with how I get on with it!

The Think Pink Exclusive Editions Box
The Exclusive Editions box is Exclusive to active Glossybox subscribers and will be available to purchase.  Each Exclusive box is focused on one particular issue in depth - this box being all about natural and gentle ingredients.

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask – I’ve heard so much about this mask and how it works wonder on brightening the skin.  It uses fruit enzymes to enhance radiance and to remove the top dead layer of skin, gently.  Will report back with results!

Mamma Mia Clean State Foaming Cleanser – This foaming cleanser is SLS-free and contains aloe-vera to balance and moisturize the skin.  I’m looking forward to using this and testing out whether it removes makeup well!

Kosmea Radiance 24/7 Youth Boost – I am pretty sure I have heard of the Kosmea range before: it was started by a mother in her kitchen after mixing natural ingredients to help her children’s nappy rash and her friends eczema.  This serum contains rosehip oil and antioxidant rich berry to help prevent aging and boost the skin!

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster – This serum contains Vit C which works to boost collagen, firm, brighten skin tone and hydrate.  I will be using this in the winter months to keep my skin glowing!

Moroccan Oil Treatment – Believe it or not, I still have never tried Moroccan Oil!  Everyone in the beauty world loves it so it’s sure to be a favourite in this exclusive box.  I’ve tried it once and love it already (it smells so good!).

What do you think of this months Glossybox?  Will you order the new Think Pink box?

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliner Review & Swatches!

L-R #013 Purple, #014 Bright Blue, #010 Silver, #004 Taupe, #005 Nude, #012 Bronze,  #001 Black
Rimmel have recently bought out new waterproof kohl eyeliners, named Scandal Eyes which are available in 6 new shades (but for some reason I only photographed 5 in the product photograph above!).  They are intensely pigmented, super creamy and smooth meaning they are easy to use and don’t tug at the eye area whilst applying.  There are a shade of neutrals – like nude and taupe (I love to use taupe underneath my lower lashes to create a smokey effect).  The black is now a staple in my handbag, I use it to line my waterline and smudge above my top lash line.  The blue and purple are perfect for girls who like a bit of colour and the silver is absolutely stunning for evening looks!

The only negative I can spot is the fact that because they are so soft and creamy, they do melt quite easily, meaning they can be quite hard to sharpen.  No fear though – you can always pop them in your fridge for a bit before sharpening to harden them up!

These babies retails at only £3.99 in Boots and Superdrug which I think is the most perfect price – they are a great quality and affordable to keep repurchasing.

What are your favourite kohl eyeliners?  What colour is your fav?

October Jolie Box 2012 Review & Contents!

The October Jolie Box landed on my door step whilst I was away and as soon as I got back home I ripped open the box in excitement!  Read on to see what I think of the contents!

Revolution Organics Freedom Glow Beauty Balm – This is an interesting product that I think lots of people will love – it is similar to a NARS Multiples stick, a creamy stick of colour that you can use on cheeks or lips for some colour.

MOA The Green Balm – This is a multi-purpose balm which can be used all over the body to moisturize dry, chapped skin.  I haven’t tried this yet, but I have the flu at the moment so I’m planning to use it around my nose to stop it getting dry and flaky!  The little pot is a nice size to carry around in my handbag and will be perfect whilst travelling.

Tiressens Exfoliant – I am obsessed with my St.Ives cleanser and have never really tried anything else to exfoliate with on my face, but this natural product sounds nice so I’m looking forward to using it.

Jason Bee Healthier Lip Balm Stick – I have way too many lip balms so initially discarded this one, but it is actually AMAZING!  I love lip balms that include mint as it tingles and makes it feel like its working, which this one does.  But even better, it contains cocoa butter and so it smells like After Eight Mints!  Pretty lovely.

LOV Organic, Lov is Beautiful tea – I am a tea fanatic and love antioxidant green teas especially and so I was super happy when I spotted this in my box.  This box contains 6 tea bags which includes peach, white tea, apricot and pineapple and it is truly delicious!  I will definitely be purchasing lots more of these tea bags from the Lov Organic website.

What I think – I like this box and will definitely get use out of it – the lip balm and tea in particular are right up my street and I will get full use out of.  I like the Beauty Balm and it’s good to have a makeup item in this box.  As usual, Jolie Boxes retail for £10 a month (plus p+p) and get send to your door step!

What do you think of this months Jolie Box?  Are you obsessed with green tea like me?

I’m in a magazine – Mexican Sugar Skull Halloween Look!

I have some very exciting news to share with you today – I am in a magazine!  I was recently asked by Company magazine (one of my favs!) if I wanted to create a Halloween DIY makeup tutorial and of course I jumped at the chance.  I decided to create a Mexican Sugar Skull look as it’s super easy to do and because it is very striking!

I am super excited to be featured as a blogger in a magazine and my mum has already bought three copies (ahah!!) so I really hope you like this too!  The November issue of Company is still out and is available for only £2!

What will you dressing as on Halloween?  Did you see this feature in Company magazine?

HPM LFW Suite w/ New Look & Uggs

This post is a little late (we are well past the LFW period now), but I’ve actually just got back from a week’s holiday in Croatia with my boyfriend and I’ve just got back!  Anyway, there will be a full post about the holiday soon, but until then…

Every LFW period, Handpicked Media set up a little getaway in one of London’s swankiest hotels, One Aldwych.  It’s  a place where HPM bloggers can go to get away from the LFW buzz, charge their phones, blog, have a drink, get their nails done and generally chill out!  I trotted down on the opening night and thought I’d show you what was there!

On the opening night the New Look Press Team were showcasing some of their newest products to hit the shops in A/W!  The gothic, rock trend was evident in the fabrics, colours and even the shoes (look at those leopard print creepers, intense!).  Also on display was the new Giles Deacon makeup range, exclusive to New Look – I’m especially in awe of the eyeshadow quad palettes which look gorgeous!  Kelly Brook’s newest lingerie range was displayed on the bed (there was always a constant crowd around these babies – they are truly stunning!).  Apparently Kelly Brook wore on of those actual bras a few days earlier on a shoot (was tempted to put them on my head, but I refrained).

Ugg Australia also showcased their footwear in the suite over the weekend.  Now, I’ll admit I’ve never actually owned a pair of Ugg Boots, don’t get me wrong, they look super comfortable, but being short I don’t think they’d suit my 4’11’’ frame!  Instead I had my eyes on a pair of wedged boots, with are incredibly comfy for a pair of heels – they are even fur lined inside!

I’m really looking forward to next LFW, just for the fact that I can go and spend my time relaxing in the HPM suite, ha!

What do you think of New Look and Ugg Australia’s ?

ckone Powder Eyeshadow Quad in #810 Smoking

When I first laid eyes upon this palette, it was love at first sight and I couldn’t wait to try it out.  Fast forward a month an after having tried it a few times, I can now tell you what I really think!

ckonepalette ckonepalette2ckone

I definitely have a thing for blue and silver eye shadows (which explains my initial attraction to the palette), but complete with a subtle white powder and matte black shade, this made for the absolute perfect combination.  However, after swatching the blue just isn’t as fabulous as it appears in the pan.  I was expecting it to be a lot brighter and more intense and pigmented, but I had to instead layer up the product to get the above swatch on my arm.

The silver shade is stunning – it reminds me of a mermaids tail (not that I’ve actually ever seen one) but the powder itself is a little chunky with all the glitter it contains; it does however make for a gorgeous bit of glamour and sparkle.  The black and white are great – both pigmented and soft to apply.

I used the palette to create the above look.  First I applied the white shadow all over my eye, up to the brow bone.  I then used the black and silver in the crease of my eye, to create an almost grungy look.  I also smudged the blue shade underneath my lash line for a twist on a smokey eye.   Finally I used liquid liner to create a flick on my top lash line and went over it with the black shadow, finishing with mascara!

This palette retails at £25, which is pricey for four eye shadows in my opinion, but the colour selection is too gorgeous to resist.  ckone cosmetics retail in Debenhams stores!

Do you like the look of this palette?  What is your favourite eye shadow combinations?

TRESemme Texture Launch at Sushisamba

I remember the first time I ever used TRESemmé – is that weird?  Maybe a little.  My first boyfriend used to use their hair wax to style his hair and the smell was so gorgeous, I ended up buying the shampoo and conditioner just for that!

Fast forward seven years or so and here I am, blogging about a brand new styling range for women by TRESemmé – the Texture range.  The range consists of four products, all designed to create texture and ‘zsssossh’ to your locks.  TRES hosted a blogger event to showcase their new range, held in the incredible Sushisamba and Duck and Waffle restaurant on the 39th floor of the Heron Tower (if you can go for a meal there, then do, it’s incredible!).  We were treated to sushi (so good!) and cocktails and then all swooned over the absolutely gorgeous Harry Goodfellow who told us about the range and demonstrated how to use the products.

On to the products - there is a Dry Texture Spray, which at first glance looks similar to a dry shampoo, but it is used on the ends of your hair instead of the roots.  You simply spray and scrunch to create texture.  I’ve already fallen in love with the Tousled Wave Spray – a light liquid spray that gives you a barnet a beach babe would envy.  The Backcomb Dust is a funny one, it is a white powder which you sprinkle into the roots of your hair and massage in, and you are left with an instant volume!  It does feel super odd and makes my hair feel a little ‘dirty’, but really does work – perfect for a night out.  Finally there is the the Velvet Crème; a thick white cream which when ruffled and scrunched into layers, gives you gorgeous shape and texture.

There will be full reviews (and possibly even a hair tutorial using these products for big textured hair) coming up soon so stay tuned!

All products are available exclusively to Boots stores until January 2013, when they will launch everywhere else!  They all retail for £5.50 each.

Do you crave big, textured hair?  What are your favourite hair styling products?

Also – do you like sushi?

Stageline Lipstick in #38 Review!

Stage Line is a brand that I hadn’t heard of until a few months ago, but learnt that they are a makeup range made for makeup artists.  The products (from the little I’ve seen) are of high quality, so thought I’d review one of their lippies for you today.

The first thing I noticed when trying this lipstick is how smoothly it applied onto my lips – it glided on leaving an intense amount of colour.  The formula is incredibly pigmented and soft and so it was a pleasure to use.  The colour itself is perfect for this A/W, a dark, cherry red.
There only negatives about this lippie is the price – it retails at £15, which is super expensive for a relatively unknown brand, in my opinion.  Another problem is the fact that as far as I know you can only buy them online at their website.  I don’t personally like buying makeup products without seeing them in the flesh first to be honest, as I like to see what colours I’m getting in real life.  I think if Stage Line lowered their prices and made their products more accessible, the brand would be fab!

You can buy Stageline products from their website -

Have you ever tried or heard of Stage Line products?  What is your favourite cherry red lipstick?

Famous Eyeshadow Palette in Exposed Review

Famous Cosmetics recently upgrading and revamped their range and from what I’ve seen, I love (you can read a review of one of their blushers here).  Today I am bringing you swatches and a review of one of their new ‘High Five’ Eyeshadow Palettes.

First things first, the packaging is great – very sturdy and fashionable, with a leopard print design and even diamantes, very flash for the high street.  This palette is called ‘Exposed’ and contains two matte shadows and three shimmer: the perfect combination if you ask me!  All five shadows are extremely pigmented and work together beautifully to create either a natural day look, or a smokey night look.  In the eye photo’s above I’ve used all three shimmer shades (along with lashings of mascara and eyeliner) to create a smouldering look for the evening.

The only negative I can find at all with this palette is perhaps the fact that because the eye shadows are so pigmented, there is quite a lot of fall out from the product (so just do your eyes first and then apply foundation/powder).  But apart from that, it is a stunning product which is an absolute steal at £4.99 in Superdrug stores!

Have you been eyeing up any of the Famous Eyeshadow Palettes?  Do you prefer shimmer or matte eye shadows?
