HELP! MAC Recommendations please!

This is a bit of a different post for me, but will be quite similar to my Boots wish list here. Basically, I was recently a very lucky girl and was given a Selfridges voucher as a gift. I had a look online to see what I could buy with the voucher but I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d be most happy with some makeup from the beauty hall, and wheres better to go than MAC!

I am in the midst of writing a shopping list of bits that I want, but I am useless and I need your help and recommendations with what to get! I am planning to do this shopping trip on Tuesday!

List so far:

I know for a fact that I want to purchase Nylon Eyeshadow – because it is my favourite highlighter and I wear it most days (this will be the fourth time that I have purchased it!).
I also know that I want a brown eyeshadow to use to fill in my brows, but I have NO idea which colour, there seems to be so many browns! What do you use?

Lipstick wise, I am pretty certain that I want ‘Vegas Volt’ – because I’ve admired it for years now but have never actually purchased it AND I also want a natural pink lipstick. I am mainly drawn to ‘Crème Cup’ because apparently everyone loves it, but I think it looks quite light so it might clash with my pale skin. ‘Kinda Sexy’ looks gorgeous as does ‘Faux’.

Click here to see a previous post of mine, with swatches & reviews of my current MAC lippies!

1
L-R Kinda Sexy, Creme Cup, Faux, Vegas Volt

Finally, I want two blushers, but I’m leaning more towards a crème blush. I want a cream blusher to contour with – so I’m guessing like a brown. And I’d like a pink or peach one to use on the apple of my cheeks – either a crème or powder!

2
L-R Top – Cremeblend Something Special, Cremeblend BritWit, Blush Gingerly,
Bottom – Fleur Power, Melba, Harmony

Can you help me girls??

What is your favourite MAC – Natural pink lipstick
– Creme blushers
– Contour shade blushers
– Eyebrow shadow shade?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I will of course do a post showing you what I get as well!

Also – NARS Penny Lane Cream Blush looks gorgeous – if you have a recommendation from another brand in the Selfridges Beauty Hall, that’d be good too!

I use Espresso for my brows, but with quite a light hand as sometimes it can look too dark. For a natural pink lipstick I'd definitely recommend Lovelorn – I just did a review on it a few days ago actually! I'm pale too and I think it's great xxx

    • February 12, 2012 / 11:09 pm

Just seen your post – lovelorn does look beautiful, very natural with a hint of colour!

I will definitely have a look at espresso – I quite like a dark brow so it might be okay? Thank you so much! xx

  2. February 12, 2012 / 11:02 pm

I really recommend Faux for a natural mauvey pink its so pretty! but Hue is also nice if you don't already have it. Blush wise Fleur Power is my favourite blush in the world so I really recommend that too! Great post! Hope that helped 🙂 x

    • February 12, 2012 / 11:09 pm

I don't have Hue yet either so I'll pop that on my list to check out!

I always see swatches of Fleur Power and it looks beautiful so I'm very tempted! Thank you! xxx

Hi there 🙂 I don't own many MAC blushers, contour shades or eyebrow shades but I own Vegas Volt and it's one of my favourite lipsticks. It's on the orange side, but in some lighting it can look more pink-based. Although my skin is darker than yours, here's a few links of me wearing this lipstick if you're interested.

In this post I apply the lipstick quite heavily:

    http://ayeshadows.blogspot.com/2012/01/selena-gomez-love-you-like-love-song.html

In this post I apply Vegas Volt by dabbing it and making it less intense:

Hope this helped to some extent!
Good luck with your purchases! xx

Oh my gosh you are beautiful! Vegas Volt looks gorgeous on you, more of a coral orange than a pink, which is exactly what I want!
Love your Selena Gomez look, its perfect!

      Thank you! xx

    Omega's good for brows.
Vegas Volt is amazing got a new tube today with some back2mac stuff – definitely amazing on pale skin, a beautiful texture/finish too!
Creme Cup is my go to natural lipstick and I am paler than pale [I have to mix white foundation into mine haha] but try it on and see.

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:02 am

Haha! So good to hear that another paley can pull creme cup off! What foundation do you use?

Illamasqua Skin Base…hated it at first but with a stippling brush and setting spray it's amazing even on my acne and scar riddled, freckly skin!

  5. February 12, 2012 / 11:34 pm

I hear many people with darker brows love Espresso eyeshadow so agree with the first commenter, maybe you want to check that one out 🙂 I'm also always looking for natural pink MAC lipsticks, but all the popular colours seem to be too light, which is not good as I have pigmented lips. I do own Patisserie, which is my favourite, and Lovelorn, which is beautiful too, but maybe just a bit too bright for everyday wear for me though. I also have a gift card to a big department store and I also want to spend at least a part of it on MAC products! I'm comsidering Well Dressed blush and Sweetie, Creme Cup and Shy Girl lipsticks. Hope you and I will find some amazing shades! 🙂

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:03 am

I have Patisserie too and its absolutely beautiful. Lovelorn sounds lovely, but I do want something that is easy to wear everyday, so I'm not sure…
Your shopping list sounds fab, let me know what you end up getting!xxx

  6. February 12, 2012 / 11:38 pm

I think espresso would be perfect for your brows, kinda sexy for a natural pink lip and something special for the cheeks. Need to get my hands on some of this stuff;pay cheque coming in soon!

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:04 am

I'm definitely leaning towards Kinda Sexy!

  7. February 12, 2012 / 11:52 pm

I'm very pale but cremecup is extremely flattering still x

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:11 am

Just looked at your blog, Shy Girl looks gorge on you, might have to take a look at that! x

  8. February 13, 2012 / 12:31 am

thats funny, i was thinking about writing a post like this today aswell hah 🙂 my boy is treating me to some mac goodies for valentines – ill definitely get a msf natural and i want to get a nice lipstick but i have no idea what one! just like you, im looking for a nice, relatively natural pink thats not too light as i have really pigmented lips… i think ill definitely check out "lustering" (http://karlasugar.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/MAC-Lustre-lipstick-1-Medium.jpg) and "lovelorn" (soo pretty but i think it might be too light for me)! vegas volt looks beautiful too! its so hard to make your mind up when theres that many lovely shades to choose from haha! xxx

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:14 am

Haha! Ah thats the best valentines pressie ever! My fav pink MAC natural lippie at the mo is Pattisserie – have a look at it in store because its lovely, very natural but beautiful pink.
I know – there are too many lippies and eyeshadows, I get so overwhelmed, but I'm ready and prepared this time!
Let me know what you end up getting! xx

  9. February 13, 2012 / 12:37 am

Brow-wise I use the 'Brun' eyeshadow, and lipstick-wise I'd recommend 'Please me', although it might not be natural pinky enough, it is very pretty!
'Dainty' is my fave Mac blush, it's a mineralize blush and is somewhere between a pink and a peach.
Nars blushers last forever, as do their multiples.- so many choices!
Good luck with the search 🙂
    xx

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:15 am

I have Please Me and I love it in the tube but find it hard to wear on the lips! Very odd.

I've added Brun to my list and will also take a look at Dainty, sounds beautiful! Thank you xx

  10. February 13, 2012 / 1:55 am

I love love love MAC Creme blush in Posey, as for powder blushes I use Melba on the apples of my cheeks and my all-time favorite Blunt as my contour.

Creme Cup is my favorite for light pink lips, but my everyday combination is MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl and Plushglass in Ample Pink. My brows are quite dark (almost black) so I don't know if my eyebrow recommendations would be any help!

    http://angefresh.blogspot.com

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:19 am

Posey looks gorgeous but a little dark? Is it wearable? Blunt sounds perfect and has gone on my list!
I was actually thinking about getting a lip pencil, so thank you for the Whirl recomendation.

      Thank you! xx

    • February 17, 2012 / 3:28 am

Posey looks dark but if you use a light touch it is the most beautiful shade of blushing pink. Very natural, not obvious at all! Happy shopping, I'm sure it will all look beautiful!

  11. February 13, 2012 / 2:29 am

My absolute favorite natural pink is creme cup, so def recommend! Also I really think you should go ahead and get Vegas Volt. Its intimidating but one of my absolute favs!! For creme blushes, something special is nice. For contouring I love 'sculpt'but I think that could be a Mac Pro item, if so, check out Buff…that one is fab! For other powder blushes I love Melba, Gingerly. Happy shopping!

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:21 am

I will def get Vegas Volt – it seems silly not to after wanting it for so long!
Sculpt sounds so good, I will look into it and if not I'll pop to a pro store for a gander. Buff is also on my list now, thank you! xx

  12. February 13, 2012 / 3:23 am

    My Faves:
Natural pink lipstick – Creme cup, and Viva Glam Gaga, its a brighter pink but i wear it like 70% of the time.. i don't know if they sell it anymore though 🙁
Creme Blushers – I only have Ladyblush from the old formula that's discontinued, but i've been wanting Something Special for ages!
Contour shade blushers – I don't own any browny colours, so i wouldn't know
Eyebrow shadow shade – it depends on your hair colour tbh, i use a mac eyebrow pencil in Spiked, and i love it!

    hope i helped! xx

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:25 am

I think Viva Galm Gaga is still out? I'm not sure, I'll have a look 🙂 I think I will get SOmething Special because it looks like the most perfect peachy cream!
      Thank you! xx

  13. February 13, 2012 / 7:27 am

Seems like your taste is definitely similar to mine! just to let you know, there's a new MAC collection coming out called "Shop MAC, Cook MAC" or something like that, and there's a lipstick called 'Watch Me Simmer' in that collection. It's been described as a dupe for Vegas Volt, so you might want to compare that to Vegas Volt when you go to your counter and see which one you prefer in terms of finish, slight colour difference etc. 🙂 x Hopefully it's not sold out when you go :O I'm not sure if it's out in your area yet, but I thought I'd let you know.

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:26 am

I've seen that new lippie and your right, we do have exactly the same taste because it looks like exactly the colour I'm after. Hopefully it'll be out tomorow so that I can have a look?
      xx

  14. February 13, 2012 / 8:36 am

Blush wise i'd recommend Coy Girl or Pink Swoon – either would look gorgeous on you.

    The doll on fashion

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:27 am

Have added both to my 'look at' list, thank you!! xx

  15. February 13, 2012 / 8:57 am

I've had the something special creamblend blush for a while now and Im loving it!

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:28 am

Ahhh your convincing me that I need it! Haha, thank you! xx

    February 13, 2012 / 9:18 am

I will definatly recommend Faux, it is an amazing colour i have been using it for years and looks amazing on absolutly every skin tone.

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:28 am

Thank you! I actually dreamed about this lipstick last night after writing about it, haa! I will try it out in store, thank you! xx

  17. February 13, 2012 / 9:44 am

I've recently purchased britwit! at first I thought I regretted it as it is a very natural blush, so almost nothing special, but in fact I've been wearing it everyday since I bought it as it gives such a natural flush and definition to the cheek and goes with every make up look. I've been wearing it in all my latest blog posts if you fancy a gander. I also own creme cup and it is light but very pink so you might be ok with your paler complexion but def try before you buy.

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:31 am

Thats what I thought at first – it looks like a very boring, but natural shade, but I'm excited by the fact that it looks natural and dewy.

Are you wearing it in your hair rollers post because your cheeks look PERFECT in that post! If so, I need! Thank you!xx

  18. February 13, 2012 / 11:25 am

I have Fleurpower blush and its a gorgeous colour- very wearable. Something quite similar is Sprinsheen- same sort of colour but with shimmery peach gold in it which is great for summer. I can't live without either!

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:34 am

It does sound like my perfect kind of blush. Also – I hadn't paid much attention to Springsheen but now I'm interested – I love shimmery blushes, espesh with peaches and golds so I'll take a look at that too.. Thank you!! xx

    In My Opinion:

Brow: I use the MAC brow shadow, I have No1: http://www.cosmeticsbulk.com/images/201006/goods_img/60_P_1276181337686.jpg
I can build it up if I feel like having strong brows. I love that it has a highlighter as well but that’s a very soft shadow, I feel like I have to be gentle with it.

Lip: I like Faux, it’s a little peachy.

Cheek: I like Blush Gingerly and Melba; again, I like a little peach…

I would also consider getting the MAC Matte Creme, just because I’ve heard it’s great, (I use e.l.f face primer so have no personal opinion yet).

And also IMO, I would be very careful about getting a MAC mascara… I don't like the one I got, I can’t remember what it called but I used it twice, and now it sits in a makeup case looking at me sadly. It’s one of the long, boring looking ones like opulash or zoom.

    • February 13, 2012 / 11:37 am

Oh, oh! I didn't realise MAC did brow shadows especially! They look perfect, thank you!

I have previously used one MAC mascara which I ADORED. Zoom fast black lash, when it first came out was incredible, one of my favs, but I don't see the point in buying another when I can get other mascaras for so much cheaper that are still good! So I def won't be getting a mascara!

      Thank you Kaylie! xx

  20. February 13, 2012 / 11:41 am

I've got Something Special and it really is gorgeous! It blends in like a dream too 🙂 I really want to try Vegas Volt aswell, would be a really good Summer lipstick! xx

    http://beautyandablogger.blogspot.com/

  21. February 13, 2012 / 11:48 am

Ahh I recently did a blog post on some MAC lipsticks including Faux which is a really nice colour, easy to wear.. would look lovely on you.
    http://moonshine709.blogspot.com/2012/02/my-lipstick-collection-swatches-mac.html
I also have Fleur Power and it's a nice warm corally pink…I really like it, especially as there's no glitter and it's easy to wear.
I have gingerly and it's a lovely contour colour, my go to.

I wish I was doing some MAC shopping!
    xo

I would say, forget the MAC stand altogether, walk straight on by and find something adorable for your amazing and very lovely Mother, who will surely love you all the more for going out and spending your Selfridges voucher on her instead…

    :}

    Love, your Mother XXXX

  23. February 13, 2012 / 2:52 pm

I seen in videos/posts that many bloggers use espresso for brows, the harmony will be nice contour/blush I seen pix2woo use it all the time, and it's on my wishlist for ages. The Mac Naturally collection have such a great Minerlazie Skinfinish blusher in Redhead such I gorgeous colour but it's shimmery, I love it. xx

  24. February 13, 2012 / 3:18 pm

I always use Espresso to fill in my brows, it's a really lovely colour and I'd totally recommend it! I also have Faux but I rarely wear it, I do think it's lovely though so I might have to dig it out again, but it is quite purpley! Shy Girl is my all time favourite mac lipstick despite the cringe-worthy name (seriously makes my toes curl when I have to say it), I'm super duper pale and I find it really flattering against pale skin. Good luck! x

  25. February 13, 2012 / 3:29 pm

I'd definetely go with Espresso for your brows. Cremecup/Hue/Shy Girl are all gorgeous neautrals/pinks that would be very flattering on your skin tone. 'Morange' is a gorgeous bright orange, if you like Vegas Volt, you will love Morange. I personally don't like the creme blush by MAC, they looked patchy on my skin. I'd go with a dark matte brown for your contour! Fleur Power blush is GORGEOUS though, def treat yourself to that.

Hope you get lots of nice goodies, I am majorly jealous, why can't someone buy me a Selfridges voucher? haha!

    Kayleigh

  26. February 13, 2012 / 5:57 pm

I use MAC Pinch 'o Peach blush, it's a really lovely bright pink. It looks a lot brighter in the packaging than it does on the skin, I was very daunted by the colour at first, but it's a really warm peachy colour on. Also, it's not a creme blush but still looks fab.
I also recently starting wearing MAC's Please Me lipstick. It's slightly too pink to be a natural lipstick, but yet not pink enough to give you a statement lip! It's really worth the £14 or so, and I find it goes with everything!

  27. February 13, 2012 / 6:13 pm

I have fair skin(NW15-NW20) and I love Mac's Lovelorn Lipstick! It's my fav. & most worn bright pink lipstick but for me it's not to bright.

  28. February 13, 2012 / 8:45 pm

I've got fleur power and it's, well, really bright. Just one dip with your brush is more than enough. But it's a lovely colour though!

    http://thoughtsanddresses.blogspot.com/

  29. February 13, 2012 / 9:05 pm

i own kinda sexy and would def say go and do it, girl!
    cause it's…kinda sexy!

  30. February 14, 2012 / 1:19 am

I'd recommend the powder Fleur Power, it'd look so fierce!

  31. February 14, 2012 / 9:10 pm

i wear faux every single day and i'm also a paley, love that colour to death.

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/180129_10150396877875341_600540340_17380098_6755342_n.jpg it looks like that on me (redhead)

vegas volt is a gorgeous colour but it's very orange on me, almost like morange.

  32. February 14, 2012 / 11:19 pm

MAC Creme Cup is gorgeous would deffo recommend! xx

  33. February 15, 2012 / 8:43 pm

i really like your blog its just amazing!!
so much inspiring at your blog

    lots of love..
